[Granulometric determination of the effect of polyvinylpyrrolidone on the dissolution rates of difficultyly soluble drugs (author's transl)].

The authors investigated the usability of the TUR ZG 2 gramulometer for determining the dissolution rates of difficultly soluble drugs (prednisolone, nitrofurantoin, nitrofural), especially under the influence of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP K 25 and PVP K 90), and for characterizing the changes in dispersity of PVP suspension gels. The dissolution gels of all three drugs were considerably increased by PVP (1--10%). Principally, PVP suspension gels of these drugs underwent changes in dispersity during storage (20 weeks), the particle numbers of prednisolone preparations being doubled. The particle numbers of the nitrofurantoin and nitrofural preparations decreased continuously, beginning with the second week of storage, which may be attributed to an improvement in solubility due to the use of the macromolecular adjuvant. PVP K 90 improved the solubilities of the drugs to a greater extent than PVP K 25.

Prevention of dry socket with clindamycin. A retrospective study.

Clindamycin and other agents were compared for efficacy in preventing the entity "dry socket." A total 765 patients were treated with clindamycin, per os, and 408 patients were treated with other antibiotics or were non-treated controls. All patients underwent surgical removal of impacted mandibular third molars. The incidence of dry socket in untreated control and in non-clindamycin antibiotic-treated patients varied from 15 to 31 percent, while in those patients receiving clindamycin, the incidence was 0.65 percent. The results demonstrate a remarkable effectiveness of clindamycin in reducing the incidence of dry socket following surgical removal of impacted mandibular third molar.

[Prevention of suppurative-inflammatory complications in catheterization of central veins].

Analysis of the incidence of pyoinflammatory diseases in intensive care units has shown that the main reason for the onset of this pathology is introduction of catheters into major veins, with their following fixation with plaster. To prevent the above condition, we have suggested a new technique of catheter fixation using a film-forming preparation "Lifusol". The preparation closes reliably the inlet for the infection agent and reduces considerably the incidence of intrahospital pyogenic complications.

[Furacilin compound cream for profound frostbite].

Furacilin compound cream in the treatment of profound frostbite was studied. The results of animal experiment showed that furacilin cream might greatly reduce vascular permeability of frostbite. The average survival rate of frostbite tissue increased from 12.0 +/- 1.2% in the control group to 62.0 +/- 3.7% in the treated group. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P < 0.001). Five patients with profound frostbite were clinically treated with the cream with satisfactory results.

[Intrauterine lavage in the treatment and prevention of puerperal endometritis].

Addition of intrauterine lavage with cooled furacilin solution (0-4 degrees C) to a complex of treatment of 87 patients with postpartum endometritis resulted in a sooner recovery as against that in 61 patients administered traditional treatment alone; such a therapeutic course required lesser amounts of drugs, too. To specify endometritis severity and monitor the treatment efficacy, metro-aspirated specimen cytology was examined. Preventive lavage of the uterine cavity postpartum in cases with a 'dry' period longer than 24 h and other factors of risk of infectious complications proved to be highly effective.

[External and intracavitary thermometry and the temperature sensitivity of the bladder in children].

The authors have determined specification indices of the intracavitary temperature of the urinary bladder in children of different age, which are compared with data of "reflected" temperature from the urinary bladder onto the abdominal wall which allows objective determination and control in dynamics of the course of the inflammatory process in the urinary bladder. The thermocontrast "cold" and "hyperthermic" cystotonometry are new methods of investigation allowing to objectively determine the state of the cold and warm receptors of the urinary bladder, to detect latent neurogenic disturbances of the urinary bladder and to prognose the effectiveness of treatment of hypermotor disturbances of functions of the urinary bladder.
