[New horizons in medicine. Chaos and its laws].

We have synthesized the fundamentals that modern technology offers in all areas of research, especially in the field of biomedicine. The theory of systems, cybernetics, synergetics, boolean algebra, communication science (according to modern laws of signal transmission and translation), the solution of non-linear equations by computer science, applied principles of reduction in biological survey, fractal analysis as a representation of dynamic, chaotic, non-linear systems, defined attractors as conditioning elements of biologic function, are just a few of the many instruments that modern science offers as a revolutionary approach to research programming. Borrowing the laws of mathematics, we have defined the fundamental characteristics of linear and non-linear homeostatic systems along with the concept of predictable behavior of a system as a function of its complex structure. Lastly, we have documented, based on personal research and recent findings in biomathematics, and despite current and strong opposition, how the functional death of any dynamic system is identified by the system's absolute state of equilibrium. The operative errors at times caused by different stimuli acting on specific organs and apparatus, are interpreted not as an index of altered function but as an expression of a chaotic response of the deterministic type and therefore an indication of the system's adaptability to the specific functional requirements in that precise moment.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) expert system in postpartum nursing.

The method of TCM treatment is highly appreciated by Chinese people, because it is safe, without side effects, widely applicable, gives good results, and uses natural medicinal herbs. It is an ideal natural cure that will make contributions to the health of patients all over the world. The superiority of TCM nursing and treatment should be brought into full play--it is an active nursing method which deserves recommendation for postpartum nursing. This paper introduces the TCM expert system in postpartum nursing and discusses the features of TCM treatment and nursing by using concepts of modern cybernetics. The human body can be considered a high-level automatic control system in which there are many transinformation mediums, for example, neuro-system, humoral-system, meridian system (the response along the channels during acupuncture) etc. They stem from the very long process of evolution. Through the action of them, the body can adapt environments; keep normal metabolism and immunity; and possess the functions of compensation , learning, and self-repair, for example, conditioned reflexes, vaccination, etc. In general, the balancing tendency of dynamic body stays normal homeostate. If the body is ill, then its dynamic balancing tendency will be changed. TCM doctors can make use of remedy, acupuncture, and massage, etc. to regulate the balancing tendency of dynamic body to induce the defending ability itself and recover normal homeostate of body. The TCM nursing expert system in postpartum nursing has been finished. Its working environment must be CCDOS or UCDOS edition 3.0 and above. The hardware environment is PC/286, 386, or 486.

[The interoceptive properties of the vestibular apparatus (a systems analysis of vestibular-oculomotor interaction)].

Modern views about physiological functions of vestibular system are submitted, their contradictions are picked out. The result of development of experimental and clinical vestibulometry till last decades at the foundation of critical estimation of effectiveness of different methods of vestibular receptor's stimulation are summed up. It is proposed to consider vestibular apparatus only as structural sensory element of eye's moving functional system at the foundation of cybernetics' principles of physiological function's regularity. It is proposed to estimate vestibular function as a part of the whole afferent stream in system, which hasn't their own way at effector neurone once which determines together with proprioceptive afferentation internal system's status. Methodological principles of further research of vestibular apparatus and vestibular function are determined.

[An automated system for evaluation of gastric motor function in duodenal ulcer].

The researchers of the Department of Medical and Biological Cybernetics and Hospital Surgery Department No. 2 of the Russian State Medical University have developed the first stage of an automatic diagnostic system to evaluate gastroduodenal motor function by intracavitary multichannel manometry. The system makes diagnostic syndromal conclusions by using an expert approach and statistic data analysis. The percentage of correct diagnoses was 92 and 80%, respectively. The system may be useful at multidisciplinary hospitals, diagnostic centers, and specialized gastroenterological care facilities.

[Neurological assessment of learning disorders].

INTRODUCTION: The neurological concept of learning is approached from a cybernetic point of view, taking into account that a child should recognize a fact, learn it semantically and decided whether it is worth storing; the dynamic aspect of memory is the true motor of the ability to learn and all this is modulated by the attention factor. DEVELOPMENT: The neurological evaluation of learning disorders is based on clinical examination which includes the so-called minor signs of the noetic functions, specifically language, the praxes, gnosias, perceptive-motor function, laterality and the lexical, graphic and calculation functions together with the modulating element, mentioned above, of the level of attention with or without hyperactivity. These semiological elements are grouped into three major categories of syndromes: motor syndrome, dyslexic-dysgraphic-dyscalculation syndrome and the hyperkinetic syndrome or attention deficit with hyperactivity. We also note the differential diagnosis. We review the neurophysiological biological markers (EEG and brain mapping, cerebral evoked potentials, neurometry) and those based on neuroimaging techniques (cerebral CT, MR, SPECT and PET). CONCLUSIONS: The contribution of neurological assessment is considered as part of the functions of a multi-disciplinary team which should deal with the diagnosis and treatment of children with learning disorders.

Cochlea: forms and philosophy.

The relationship between the general form of the cochlea and its function is difficult to study. The logarithmic nature of the spiroid can be deduced from embryologic data and the development of the cochlea around a nervous system. The propagation of sound has been studied through linear models. Experiments in fluid mechanics show that the parameters of viscosity and surface tension can modify the surface pattern. These data could permit the conception of 3D-models to explain cochlear cybernetics uniting maximal efficiency with a minimal volume.
