Various forms of dressings, including proflavine wool, have been used traditionally for pinnaplasties. We report the use of Silastic Foam as a dressing in seven of our pinnaplasty cases. The advantages of Silastic Foam dressing over conventional dressings are mainly: Patient comfort. No change of dressing is required.
OBJECTIVES: This study was designed to investigate the effect on skin temperature of different methods of use of a hydrogel dressing. METHODS: Twelve volunteers had temperature measured under a hydrogel dressing with different combinations of air movement and bandaging. RESULTS: A large drop in skin temperature was only achieved when the dressing was left exposed with air movement over the surface of the dressing. CONCLUSIONS: A temperature that gives effective analgesia is not reached if the dressing is used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions (covered with an insulating layer). This explains the authors' observation that paramedics and patients often leave these dressings uncovered.
This review of pressure-sensitive adhesives used in wound dressings describes the properties of recently developed hydrogel adhesives. The findings of a study comparing the adhesion and moisture vapour transition rates of the hydrogel adhesives with some existing wound-dressing products are reported.

In this study Duoderm has been used for the treatment of superficial and deep partial thickness burns in 61 patients. In 15 patients a second similar burn was treated with human allografts or silver sulphadiazine cream. Five very small full skin thickness burned areas were also treated with Duoderm. Treatment with Duoderm had to be stopped before total epithelial cover had occurred in 3 patients. Duoderm is a very good alternative for the treatment of smaller superficial and deep partial thickness burns, since it provides very good results, both cosmetically and functionally, combined with fast re-epithelialization and comfort for the patients.
