Human papillomavirus--associated vulvar verrucous carcinoma in a 20-year-old with an intact hymen. A case report.

A 20-year-old woman with vulvar verrucous carcinoma, the youngest such patient reported to date, had human papillomavirus DNA 6/11 identified with an in situ hybridization technique. In addition to her youth, the patient was unusual in that she had an intact hymen. Although she denied having engaged in sexual activity, venereal transmission of the virus may have occurred without vaginal penetration.

[Imperforated hymen with hematocolpos diagnosed by urinary symptoms].

We inform of the case of a hymenal membrane imperforation in a 14-year-old patient who consulted for urological symptoms. It is, therefore, a case of an uncommon disorder of a gynecologic origin which, through the occurrence of the menarche and the accumulation of successive menstruations, causes a hematocolpos. This gives rise to a clinical pattern of urinary discomfort as a mechanical effect due to space commitment.

Diffuse vaginal adenosis associated with imperforate hymen.

A case of imperforate hymen associated with adenosis of the proximal surface of the obstructing membrane and of the vaginal wall is reported. The histogenesis of vaginal adenosis coexisting with congenital obstructive lesions is discussed, and the importance of careful follow-up of the patients with this type of anomaly is emphasized.

Peritoneal calcification in a neonate with imperforate hymen.

Contrast medium for vaginography in a premature neonate passed into the peritoneal cavity; calcification in that area apparently represented genital-tract secretions which had accumulated above the imperforate hymen. Ultrasonography of the mother's abdomen had indicated fetal ascites, a finding that may be of value in diagnosing genital-tract obstruction prenatally.
