The article reports on an examination of the diagnostic accuracy in assessing the pulmonary vessel blood flow via x-ray films of the thorax in 323 children by means of a comparison with the haemodynamic data of four examiners, on the basis of a Yes/No (True/False) decision. Overall accuracy in the total group of examined children--depending on the experience of the examiners--was 60 to 66%; in children below 2 years of age, it was 63-69%, and in children over 2 years old it was 59-65%. In a Left-Right Shunt smaller than 35%, accuracy was between 33 and 63%; if the Left-Right Shunt was greater than 57%, it was 81-97%. Diagnosis of reduced pulmonary blood flow proved more difficult than of an enhanced flow. Sensitivity of the examination method was 53-71%, whereas its specificity was 57-70%.

We evaluated a list of high-yield criteria (HYL) as a means of reducing posttraumatic skull roentgenograms and as a diagnostic test for skull fractures. Physicians requested roentgenograms for 76.9% of head trauma patients in a four-month control period, but for only 46.1% during a four-month experimental period, a relative decrease of 40%. When the experiment ended, roentgenogram use increased to 72% of head trauma patients. The HYL accurately classified 92.5% of the patients with and 84.5% of the patients without pathological conditions. The HYL displayed substantial differences in sensitivity and specificity from HYLs used previously. Clinicians disliked the HYL, believing it was inaccurate and a monitoring device. We conclude that criteria lists can effectively decrease requests for roentogenograms and should be carefully evaluated as diagnostic tests for accuracy and adverse outcomes.

For the purpose of interpreting changes in the soft parts on conventional skeleton roentgenographs, particularly from an anatomical point of view, the article demonstrates soft roentgenographs of the lower arm. For example, it is usually possible to visualize the quadratoendinosal space in good delineation, especially in volar flexion. It is also possible to recognize the tendons of the musc. carpi ulnaris or radialis with slight radial or ulnar pronation. An area of increased translucence can be visualized at the tip of the radius. The article concludes with a few hints on practical diagnostics.

We reviewed 197 previously reported cases of acute rupture of the ulnar collateral ligament of the metacarpophalangeal joint with respect to anatomy, diagnosis, surgical findings, and management. A standardized roentgenographic technique in stress abduction of the thumb was developed from thirty normal patients. The correlation between the abduction arc as recorded by our technique, the arthogram, and surgical pathology in twenty patients is reported.

The three-year-long experience of the use of electroroentgenography for anatomical investigations has shown that the details of the picture of anatomical objects which are insufficiently contrast in conventional roentgenograms may be revealed in electroroentgenograms. The obtained data speak of good prospects of application of electroentgenography in rentgenoanatomical studies.
