Multidisciplinary approach to the immediate esthetic repair and long-term treatment of an oblique crown-root fracture.

This case report describes the esthetic management of a dental trauma at the first visit and its subsequent treatments to restore the esthetics and function. Today, patients expect adequate esthetics and the ability to confidently smile immediately after the first appointment. In addition, they require that esthetics is maintained throughout the definitive treatment phase as well. After the use of the fractured crown as a temporary replacement crown, an orthodontic extrusion was undertaken to restore the physiological periodontal attachment. The tooth was then splinted for 6 months and at completion of this orthodontic stage, the permanent restoration was fabricated.

The advantages of minimally invasive dentistry.

Minimally invasive dentistry, in cases in which it is appropriate, is a concept that preserves dentitions and supporting structures. In this column, I have discussed several examples of minimally invasive dental techniques. This type of dentistry is gratifying for dentists and appreciated by patients. If more dentists would practice it, the dental profession could enhance the public's perception of its honesty and increase its professionalism as well.

The importance of a coordinated restorative and maintenance program following periodontal therapy: a case report.

The problems arising during the maintenance phase of therapy following a combination of periodontal, orthodontic, and restorative treatment are illustrated by this case report. Emphasis is placed on the combined responsibility of the patient, general dental practitioner, and periodontist to recognize signs of recurrent disease at an early stage, thereby allowing corrective measures to be initiated promptly. By applying these principles, even when disease recurs during the maintenance phase, re-treatment is possible and a satisfactory result can be achieved.
