[Experiences with an integrated psychological therapy program for training communication and cognitive abilities in the rehabilitation of severely ill chronic schizophrenic patients].

A therapy study was conducted with 17 seriously chronically ill schizophrenic patients. Ten patients (Experimental Group) received a psychological therapy program of training in cognitive and communication/social skills (58 sessions of 60 min.). Seven further patients constituted a Control Group. Researched was the question of the potential for change of basic disorders respectively symptoms, and its effect on social behavior. In individual cases significant changes were recorded. As to the therapeutic effects, significant findings were obtained only conditionally. Implications and consequences are discussed in the résumé.

Developing a productive nursing research program in a clinical institution.

Many nursing administrators are faced with the challenge of developing productive nursing research programs. This article describes a systematic process that develops a framework that can be used to establish a nursing research program in a clinical institution. With this process, each newly developed phase of the program is integrated into the program's framework and is consistent with the previously developed elements. This article discusses specific ways to maximize the program's productivity, credibility, and scientific contribution by focusing time and resources on research and estimating potential studies' viability.

[Instrumental and programmed support for integration of diagnostic information within the local network].

The paper deals with the problems in the integration of diagnostic information obtained by various devices, suggests that this process should be implemented by local networks, considers the basic tasks arising with this approach, and gives how to solve some of them. It is shown that this approach can be applied when two basic subdivisions of a health institution: therapeutical and diagnostical--interact.

Development of an integrated case management program for vulnerable children.

Although case management is a recognized technique to organize and coordinate human services, its use with high-risk children is relatively new. This article describes the development of a case management program for children at the Center for the Vulnerable Child at Children's Hospital, Oakland, California, a health care setting that brings together health, social work, and child welfare services. Case management was introduced into multidisciplinary clinical programs for foster children, drug-exposed infants, and adolescent mothers and their infants. Case management activities differed in each of the clinical programs in relation to the unique characteristics of each population and the different obstacles encountered. A time management analysis indicated consequent differences in case management time allocations. The implications of these findings are discussed.
