The contribution deals with drawings of an eleven year old boy. He is in the transitional phase from preadolescence to adolescence. The atmosphere at home is very aggressive due to the prolonged divorce of his parents, which has been going on for three years. Because of this the typical development in this phase of growing up is made much more difficult for him. The youngster finds himself in an intensive loyality conflict with his parents. In his opinion any kind of aggression is negatively connoted. Therefore he cannot use his aggressions in a positive way neither to promote his self-development nor to become independent. His ability to symbolize was initially inhibited and could be released in the act of drawing during therapy. The boy's way from denial to showing his inner conflicts is described in the contribution.
Imposex, the superimposition of male-type genital organs (penis and vas deferens) on female gastropods, is cause-specific and induced by low concentrations of certain organotins, such as tributyltin (TBT) and triphenyltin (TPT) from antifouling paints. Reproductive failure may be observed at severely affected stages. The history of imposex study and the legislation of organotins are summarized. The present statuses of gastropod imposex and organotin pollution in Japan, together with endocrine disruption observed in abalones, are also summarized, on the basis of the results of the field studies of the rock shell (Thais clavigera) conducted at 174 locations along the Japan coast between January 1999 and November 2001, the histopathological and analytical chemical studies of the ivory shell (Babylonia japonica), and both field and laboratory studies of the abalone (Haliotis madaka and H. gigantea). The fundamental knowledge of the endocrinology of gastropod mollusks is briefly described. Four hypotheses, such as that of aromatase-inhibition, regarding the induction mechanism of imposex induced by organotins in gastropods are reviewed. Finally, a new hypothesis that states that retinoid X receptor (RXR) plays an important role in inducing the development of imposex, i.e., the differentiation and growth of male-type genital organs in female gastropods, is reviewed and discussed to clarify the entire mode of action of TBT or TPT in the development of imposex in gastropods.

The author discusses the physiology of the male sexual act and the inherent problems of aging. He begins with a review of sexual physiology then goes on to describe the three phases of the sexual act : erection, orgasm, and he then deals with impotence, the problem of the elderly man, and its organic and psychological causes.
To study rapidly evolving male specific Y (MSY) genes we retrieved and analyzed nine such genes. VCY, HSFY and RBMY were found to have functional X gametologs, but the rest did not. Using chimpanzee orthologs for XKRY, CDY, HSFY, PRY, and TSPY, the average silent substitution is estimated as 0.017 +/- 0.006/site and the substitution rate is 1.42 x 10(-9)/site/year. Except for VCY, all other loci possess two or more pseudogenes on the Y chromosome. Sequence differences from functional genes show that BPY2, DAZ, XKRY, and RBMY each have one pseudogene for each one that is human specific, while others were generated well before the human-chimpanzee split, by means of duplication, retro-transposition or translocation. Some functional MSY gene duplication of VCY, CDY and HSFY, as well as X-linked VCX and HSFX duplication, occurred in the lineage leading to humans; these duplicates have accumulated nucleotide substitutions that permit their identification.
The present state of male contraception is reviewed with reference to pharmacological methods only. Since spermatogenesis is the result of a long chain of endocrine mechanisms starting in the hypothalamus, any review of contraceptive techniques must follow these physiological links. Spermatogenesis itself involves different stages and each of them can be a target for pharmacological compounds. Although no drug is currently available that offers all the necessary guarantees required of a contraceptive, interesting interconnections have nevertheless emerged. In consequence there are grounds for moderate optimism as to the availability of a male contraceptive in the coming years.

This article examines the common admission that men express their emotions less than do women. Research data shows little difference between the behaviours of boys and girls before adolescence. During adulthood, however, evidence points to men being less expressive than women except in situations involving aggressive behaviour. Men's diminished expressiveness is apparent in a context of intimate interaction. But in situations where they compete for social status, men seem more likely to express emotions. The authors suggest that more studies take into account the social contexts of emotional expressiveness generated by division of labor based on sex.
