Our results indicate that pig lymphocytes in culture complete their 1st division at 24 h. At 36 h there are 9% of cells in 2nd division. 3rd mitosis appears at 48 h; and at 72 h there are cells engaged in the 4th division.
Micronuclei frequency and percent of chromosome breaks increases significantly in adults whose thymus glands were irradiated in infancy and after irradiation of cancer patients.
The mechanism of the toxicity of lectin from Phaseolus vulgaris seeds has been investigated on rat enterocytes. Cell isolation procedures showed a selectivity in the loss of brush border hydrolases; this indicated that the microvilli blebbing was not the only mechanism of action of lectins on rat enterocytes.
The present study involves the determination of the effect of supernatants obtained from mitogen-induced lymphocytes of human tonsils and containing lymphotoxins on human peripheral blood polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs). PMNs treated with supernatants from phytohemagglutinin-stimulated lymphocytes were found to increase the release of thromboxane B2, compared to normal control levels. This increase was blocked by the preincubation of PMNs with indomethacin. The production or increase in production of thromboxanes may be induced by lymphotoxins since these substances have been reported to activate phospholipase A2 in target cell membranes, which may result in release of the thromboxane precursor, arachidonic acid.

Five fractions of small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs) were identified in nuclei of human peripheral blood lymphocytes. They have been designated as: H, G', D, C and A (nomenclature according to Weinberg) in order to decreasing electrophoretic mobility. Their synthesis was observed from the first day of treatment with mitogen and was continued with different intensity during four days of culture. In nonstimulated lymphocytes exclusively A and G' fractions were detected but no (14C)-uridine incorporation was observed.
