[3-channels data acquisition system based on single-chip-microcomputer used in the measurement of coronary sinus blood flow].

The coronary sinus blood flow can be figured out, which based on the principle of thermodilution, so long as gets the temperature of blood, indicator and mixture of blood and indicator respectively. This system is a smart slave module with single-chip-microcomputer. The structure and principles of hardware and the flow chart of software are described in detail.

[The development of an automatic blood collector controlled by microcomputer].

A new automatic blood collector developed by using microcomputer AT89C2051 is presented in this paper. Meanwhile its principles component block diagram and their functions' are introduced here. All clinical experiments have shown that it has the advantages of easy operation, reliable performance, lower price and so on. It is truly an ideal upgrade product of intravenous blood exampling. It would find various applications and would have a bright future.

A microcomputer-based daily living activity recording system.

A new daily living activity recording system has been developed for monitoring health conditions and living patterns, such as respiration, posture, activity/rest ratios and general activity level. The system employs a piezoelectric sensor, a dual axis accelerometer, two low-power active filters, a low-power 8-bit single chip microcomputer and a 128 MB compact flash memory. The piezoelectric sensor, whose electrical polarization voltage is produced by mechanical strain, detects body movements. Its high-frequency output components reflect body movements produced by walking and running activities, while the low frequency components are mainly respiratory. The dual axis accelerometer detects, from body X and Y tilt angles, whether the patient is standing, sitting or lying down (prone, supine, left side or right side). The detected respiratory, behavior and posture signals are stored by the compact flash memory. After recording, these data are downloaded to a desktop computer and analyzed.

The FPbase microcomputer system for managing community health screening and intervention data bases.

Health promotion and intervention projects at State and community levels need computerized data bases to assist in making policy decisions and in operating the projects. Computer data base systems are used in entering, storing, retrieving, and analyzing information about health project activities and their participants in a timely and cost-effective manner. Computer support is essential for such labor-intensive tasks as post-screening followup of participants, identifying subpopulations, and evaluating recruitment efforts and behavior change programs. The Pawtucket Heart Health Program developed a microcomputer software package, FPbase, for community health project data base management. FPbase is described and is available for use by other organizations. FPbase incorporates formative and process interactive data base activities and is suitable for use in operating intervention and screening programs at State and local levels. The system accommodates management of data for social marketing, evaluation, followup, and promotional activities.

[Experiences with microcomputer based registration of esophago-gastro-duodenoscopy].

The development of and the experience with a microcomputer based register of endoscopy is described. The paper work was reduced from nine forms to one. The register provides the information necessary for budgeting the resources for staff and new equipment. The system provides the opportunity for analysing existing and new principles for treatment and provides information about the pattern of diagnoses, thereby supporting the running of clinical controlled studies. During the first 29 months, data from 6,014 endoscopies were collected. The categories of patients and the distribution of diagnoses is presented.

Imaging skeletal pathology in mutant mice by microcomputed tomography.

OBJECTIVE: We describe the utility of microcomputed tomography ( micro CT) for imaging skeletal abnormalities in rodent model systems. For the purpose of illustration, the progressive ankylosis (ank) mutant was selected. ank mice develop prominent articular and periarticular calcifications at multiple anatomical sites, including paws, elbows, knees, and vertebrae. METHODS: Forelimbs, hindlimbs, and proximal tail vertebrae of 4-month-old female ank/ank mice were scanned at 15 micro m resolution using a SkyScan 1072 micro CT instrument and images were generated using Analyze 4.0 software. RESULTS: This technique was able to show, in 3-dimensional images, the abnormal calcification of ank/ank mice, which was readily observed within joint surfaces, on periosteal surfaces, sesamoid bones, menisci, and joint capsules, as well as other periarticular ligamentous structures. CONCLUSION: As illustrated by the example of the progressive ankylosis mutant, micro CT represents a powerful emerging tool for identifying and monitoring the progression of developmental or acquired skeletal abnormalities within rodent models.

[Use of microcomputers in biomedical research. Project and implementation of an analysis of variance program. Computer notes].

Clinical and experimental numerical data evaluation requires microcomputer programs which greatly facilitate both the ease and speed of handling statistical data processing tasks. In present study designing and construction of variance analysis program is approached for application of computers to surgery. It is an approach which allows a physician who has some familiarity with programming techniques to rapidly construct and use a family of programs for statistical manipulation of numeric information.

Using microcomputers to facilitate research studies.

Microcomputers can facilitate research studies planned by busy PACU nurses. PACU nurses need to become computer literate to take advantage of these time-efficient methods. Computer hardware and software can be used to word process a research proposal, statistical software can be used for data analysis, and graphic and clip-art software can be used to summarize and to graphically present the results of this study.

A microcomputer application for managing information used when weaning patients from mechanical ventilation.

This article describes a microcomputer application designed to manage data collected from patients assessed for weaning from mechanical ventilation. The application has menu options for obtaining individual summaries of serial weaning assessments. These summaries provide an overview of patients' progress during the weaning process. Users also have the option of obtaining information about procedures and problems often encountered during weaning. In addition, weaning summary data are easily transferred to mainframe computers for statistical analyses. The application is an efficient data manager and provides information that can be used during the patient care decision process, for staff and student instruction, and for research purposes.

A microcomputer-based information management system for a nurse-managed clinic.

A project team from a nurse-managed health care center designed and used a microcomputer-based information management system to document the activities of their clinic. Commercial software, dBase III Plus, was used to program the system, called Nurse Education Link to Aged Center (NELAC). NELAC reflects the center's philosophy of helping clients attain maximum satisfaction of their health care needs through self care. NELAC's specific purposes include 1) matching student nurses with potential clients for clinical experiences; 2) providing an efficient reminder system to improve follow-up care for clients; 3) maintaining longitudinal client records; 4) producing reports of services and activities of the center; and 5) providing aggregate data for research.

[Microcomputer-based medical records system for diseases of the female breast].

We describe a microcomputer-based Medical Record for diseases of the female mammary gland. The system is based on multiple-choice questionnaires used by the physician and later transferred to the computer. The computer produces written output for transfer to the patient record. Statistical information can be obtained through preprogrammed menus. The system has been used as the only documentation for the patient group at the Surgical Department, Ullevaal Hospital for more than four years. We discuss system design, statistical results and future development.
