A computer program for reconstruction of images from a scanning gamma camera.

A program was written to convert the output of a scanning gamma camera into a whole body computer image which can then be used to study regional and whole body radiopharmaceutical localization. The electronically masked output of the camera is collected as a dynamic study on the computer with the time per frame set according to scan speed. The program overlays these frames onto a matrix in memory to form the image. The overlayed frame is incremented 1 pixel/frame in the direction of camera motion during camera scanning. The timing of camera motion is automatically determined by the program. Although written for a specific scanning gamma camera, the ideas inherent in the algorithm will allow the reconstruction of whole body images from other scanning cameras.

[A computer program for registering all daily accumulated data at a school for vision disorders].

Despite increasing medical use of the computer, many clinics have experienced only limited success (or none at all) in computerized registration of patient data. One important reason for this lies in the complicated user interfaces of most programs. The clinician has no time to familiarize himself with the complicated command sequences involved, while necessary acceptance of the new technology by administrative staff is often lacking. This paper shows that computerized registration and interpretation of patient data are well within the bounds of possibility, given the use of newly-developed user-friendly operating systems and suitable personal computers. A concrete example of computerized registration of data in a remedial center is given: a case with squint symptoms for which 176 parameters can be entered.

A simple computer program for insulin dose adjustment in diabetic patients.

A program is described for the adjustment of insulin dose in diabetic patients. The program is written in BASIC and runs on a Casio FX-770P portable computer. On the basis of the maximum daily dose variation allowed, seven twice-daily glucose determinations and the previous insulin dose, the program generated 'cautious' and 'normal' insulin dose adjustment for 66 patients which correlated well with the judgements made by four expert diabetologists.

A visual interface to computer programs for linkage analysis.

This paper describes a visual approach to the input of information about human families into computer data bases, making use of the GEM graphic interface on the Atari ST. Similar approaches could be used on the Apple Macintosh or on the IBM PC AT (to which it has been transferred). For occasional users of pedigree analysis programs, this approach has considerable advantages in ease of use and accessibility. An example of such use might be the analysis of risk in families with Huntington disease using linked RFLPs. However, graphic interfaces do make much greater demands on the programmers of these systems.

A computer program to study the area perception of squares and rectangles.

A computerized approach to study the visual perception of rectangles and squares is proposed. A program has been used for comparison of these two figures when one of them is fixed in size while the other is varied actively by a subject to match the area of the fixed one. The final errors on area and on perimeter made by the subject are computed for each pair of presented figures. The program is menu driven and thus easy to use by the investigator. Since the task procedure is very simple and non-obtrusive to the subjects, it can be used both for children and adults as well as for normal and brain impaired subjects in order to study some perceptive and cognitive functions. This program recognizes the most common graphics cards used by computers running under MS-DOS to adjust the parameters of the presented figures according to the pixel resolution of the graphics card. Quick-BASIC was used to write the program which was compiled by Microsoft Professional Basic 7.0 compiler.

ADOXI-PLOT: a computer program for plotting pedigrees illustrating autosomal dominant and X-linked inheritance.

A FORTRAN program ADOXI-PLOT (Autosomal Dominant Or X-linked Inheritance Plot) has been developed. Different symbols are used to characterize individual family members. Depending on the size of the kindred, the pedigree automatically obtains a rectangular or circular appearance. The program can be used alone, or be connected to a register of families from which the input information for the plot program is obtained.
