Pesticides are widely used inSenegal as in others africans countries. This situation facilitate occurrence of intoxications, whose management is limited by unavailability of antidotes. We report a case of acute pesticide intoxication in a suicide attempt by a girl of thirteen. The clinical evaluation showed a coma with advanced muscarinic and nicotinic syndrome. The absence of antidotes in the country limited the care management to atropine administration and reanimation measures. The evolution was positive in few days and the patient referred to pediatrics in order to be clinically and psychologically managed. The positive evolution should not hide the necessity for the country to make available all antidotes of toxic substances and to implement Poison Control Centre in order to improve medical management of poisoned people.

Caulobacter crescentus was grown in complex medium supplemented with low (0.05%) concentration of glycine, a component of the murein peptide side chains of this bacterium. Murein synthesized in the presence of glycine was poorly crosslinked and the rate of its synthesis was slowed down compared to the control cells. The glycine-grown cells were considerably more sensitive to the chelating agent EDTA and Tris buffer than the control cells and also lysed faster when incubated with beta-lactam antibiotics. No changes in phospholipid composition in the presence of glycine were observed and the outer membrane protein composition of the glycine-grown cells was altered only in the amount of 130 000 protein which forms the surface array of C. crescentus. The effects of glycine can thus be tentatively put down to the reduced crosslinkage of murein synthesized in its presence.
Protein bodies isolated from lentil (Lens culinaris, Medik) cotyledons exhibit autolytic activity which increases during seed germination. Such autolytic capacity is active across a broad pH range and shows a maximum at pH 6.5. Excision of the embryonic axis reduces autolytic capacity and application during incubation of the seeds without axis of both 6-benzylaminopurine and kinetin is able to replace it. On the other hand, the proteolytic activity in the protein body membrane, is located towards the proteinaceous matrix and is obviously partially responsible for this autolytic activity.
Bovine beta-trypsin was prepared from commercial crystalline trypsin by SP-Sephadex equilibrium chromatography (D.D. Schroeder and E. Shaw, Journal of Biological Chemistry, 243: 2943-2949, 1968) and by a modification which included 0.1 M NaCl in the eluting buffer to reduce the buffer volume (time) required. SDS-PAGE analysis indicated that beta-trypsin prepared by both methods contained appreciable amounts of alpha-trypsin. The following relative amounts of alpha-trypsin were detected at each step of the process: 4.4% eluted from the column into pH 3.0 buffer; 10.7% after concentration on SP-Sephadex; 14.9% after desalting at pH 3.0; 16.1% after lyophilization. These data show that even at pH 3.0, a condition under which trypsin is believed to be inactive, and which is employed for preparation and storage of trypsin solutions, appreciable partial proteolysis can occur to generate the two-chain alpha form from beta-trypsin.
