[Experimental study of new polymer dressings in the treatment of burn wounds].

Data on the experimental study of a new polymer coverage for treatment of burn wounds are presented in the article. Application of this coverage, which has a tanning and absorbing affect promotes formation of a dry eschar over a burn wound within the first two days after the accident. This allows to perform early chemical necrectomy on the 6-7th day after the accident. Microbiological investigations show that wound dissemination after application of the coverage remains low and is 3.5 +/- 0.1 per. 1.0 g of the tissue.

[Perforation of hepatic hydatid cysts into the abdominal cavity in children].

Perforation of echinococcal cysts of the liver into the free abdominal cavity was observed in 10 patients. The operative intervention was performed after overcoming the shock in patients, correction of homeostasis. The performance of wide laparotomy, through revision of the abdominal cavity and its sanitation by means of the abundant washing by the furacin solution are important. No lethal outcomes, disease recurrences were noted.

[Ultrasonic medicinal aerosols in multimodal treatment of acute surgical diseases of the organs of the abdominal cavity].

Microbiologic studies have shown that ultrasonic aerosol treatment of E. coli reference culture with 0.02% furacillin solution for 3 min reduces its survival rate by 2 orders (240-fold). Exposure to low-energy ultrasound increases 7-fold the antibacterial activity of furacillin solution. Experiments have demonstrated that 99mTc ionized particles diffusion via cadaver peritoneum is enhanced more than 5 times if Tc solution is spread via ultrasonic aerosol. A method for ultrasonic aerosol treatment of infected abdominal cavity has been developed. Clinical trials of the method have been carried out: it has been employed in multiple-modality treatment of acute surgical diseases of the abdominal organs in 6 patients and of postoperative peritonitis in 15 patients, as well as for the prevention of purulent complications after extensive abdominal surgery in 4 patients.

[Contact eczema in patients with leg ulcers].

Patients with leg ulcers or varicose eczema suffer much more often from contact eczema due to the local application of pharmaceutical preparations than patients suffering from other dermatological problems (even those of eczematous origin). This contact allergy may concern not only the active ingredient but also the excipient, the preservative, or even the perfume. In all cases of leg ulcers, of varicose eczema, but also of badly healed ulcers, epicutaneous tests should be carried out with all the components of the pharmaceutical preparations concerned. Moreover, the pharmaceutical industry really must perfect non-allergenic preparations.

[Selection of the method of treatment of suppurative spinal epiduritis].

The author has analyzed 65 observations of patients with purulent spinal epiduritis resulting mostly from purulent diseases of the skin and subcutaneous fat. A period of pyo-resorptive fever was established which in most cases preceded the appearance of local symptoms of the disease. The purulent process is more frequently accompanied with fever, more rarely it turns into sepsis. The most rational method of treatment of the disease is early operation followed by irrigative drainage of the wound in complex with antibacterial and symptomatic therapy. A classification of purulent spinal epidurites is proposed.

[Effect of Furacillin antiseptic tablets on dental plaque].

According to the modern concepts the ideal oral hygiene is decisive for the prophylaxis of caries and periodontal diseasese. However, its realization is not easy since dental plaque rapidly and ceaslessly cumulates upon all dental surfaces and is difficult to remove by the ordinary means for oral hygiene (tooth brush and tooth paste). Lately hope is centered on the antiseptics, being the base of various preparations as solutions for mouth wash for inhibition of dental plaque. The action of Furacillin tablets on the dental plaque was studied in 10 volunteers with sanated dentition, with on diseases of gingiva and periodontium. The probands sucked one tablet every three hours (6 tablets daily) in the course of 5 days with interrupted oral-hygienic cares. Dentalplaque was controlled by the oral higienic index of the whole dentition daily, after staining with 1 per cent alkaline fuxin. Probands, left on an ahygienic regimen for 5 days served as a control. The results from the study show an essential inhibitory effect of the tablets on trial upon the dental plaque and the possibilities to use the tablets for some patient groups with restrictions as regards the maintenance of oral hygiene via the ordinary means.

[Treatment of acute radiation cystitis with preparations of immobilized trypsin].

At present the problem of bladder injuries and methods of their therapy are very urgent in view of a wide use of radiation therapy of cancer of the uterine body, bladder and rectum. None of the existing methods of therapy of local radiation cystitis is sufficiently effective. To obtain better therapeutic results and immobilized trypsin preparation on a powder-like cellulose matrix was used. Therapy was provided to 34 patients with symptoms of acute radiation cystitis. The therapy in all the cases proved to be effective. It was confirmed by the disappearance of clinical symptoms and cystoscopic findings.

"Dermodress", a new temporary skin substitute: pilot study on donor sites.

"Dermodress" is a new temporary biological dressing (heterograft) composed of a pure neonatal bovine collagen I. The authors present their first trial with this skin substitute. Ten consecutive patients who required skin grafts were included in the pilot test group. The "Dermodress" was tested on their donor sites and compared with "Furacin" gauze. It was found that "Dermodress" provided a covering that adhered excellently to debrided surfaces, without disturbing the healing processes underneath, for up to three weeks after application. The results point to the potential value of the "Dermodress" for open wounds.
