In hypertensive patients with unilateral renal artery stenosis, intravenous diazoide increased renal vein renin activity more on the involved side than on the contralateral side, whereas, in a group with predominantly unilateral renal parenchymal disease, the increase in renal vein was similar for both kidneys. In patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis, the use of diazoxide was helpful in lateralizing the dominant ischaemic lesion. Diazoide administration appears to be a safe, rapid and convenient method of increasing the sensitivity of the renal vein renin test used in predicting the outcome of surgical treatment of renovascular hypertension. Bilateral renal vein renin determination of established value in the diagnosis of functional renal ischaemia. 1-4 However, in the use of this procedure to predict the efficacy of corrective surgery, false positive and false negative results still occur. Thus, various manoeuvres which stimulate renin release have been employed to improve the sensitivity of the test. 5-7 We report a new application the practical approach to of this procedure in the diagnosis of renal hypertension, which both basal and stimulated levels of renal venous renin activitity can be measured during a brief period of bilateral renal vein catherization.
A total of 57 patients admitted to the Danish Multiple Sclerosis Society's treatment and nursing home in Haslev have been interviewed about their socio-medical situation concerning their course of disease, physical, psychic and economic status, family relationships, and different assistance needs. Sixty per cent lived together, and of the solitary only 9 were unmarried. None were employed fulltime and as a whole they received higher allowances than other disabled persons. All suffered from walking impairment. 17 had no wheelchair, 21 had a wheelchair and limited walking ability, 19 could move around only by wheelchair. None were bedridden. The distribution of housing corresponded to that of other disabled persons but was inferior to that of the population as a whole. 54 per cent had got modifications to housing paid for by the public authorities and 42 per cent had a car for the disabled. 47 per cent alleged that their need for transportation remained uncared for. None of the patients were lonely to a severe degree. Expenses for medicine and transportation varied greatly, showing inequality of grant administration. The results of the investigation are discussed.

The symptoms of Frey's syndrome are occasionally of sufficient magnitude to warrant curative treatment. In four patients, a fascia lata graft was placed under the involved skin in an attempt to offer permanent relief from the cutaneous discomfort suffered during eating. Two of these patients have excellent long-term results. The other two patients were lost to long-term follow-up but were asymptomatic several months following grafting.

The fact that electrosurgical cutting is governed by factors that have no influence on steel scalpel cutting is responsible for discrepancies among the results of investigations of the modalities. The investigator's equal expertise in the use of both modalities is a prerequisite for accurate comparative investigations of the effects of electrosurgical and steel scalpel cutting. Eleven specific factors that govern the efficacy and quality of electrosurgical cutting and that can, therefore, ensure consistently reliable histologic results and accurate conclusions have been mentioned.
This study tested the effect of a social reinforcement training procedure for a problem student on the verbal and nonverbal approval and disapproval of four of the student's teachers. A design incorporating aspects of a multiple baseline within an extended reversal design (ABABA) was employed. Data were taken on the four teachers' approval and disapproval of a student regarded as a major discipline problem and the target student's approval and disapproval of the four teachers during baseline 1, experimental condition 1, baseline 2, experimental conditon 2, and a postcheck or baseline 3 condition six weeks after experimental condition 2. Results showed that increased student approval and decreased disapproval were attributable to training procedures. The increased student approval increased three of the four teachers' approval and decreased the disapproval of all four teachers. Six weeks after experimental condition 2, both approval and disapproval by three of the four teachers and the student and disapproval by all four teachers and the student remained changed over baseline conditions. Student and teacher approval and disapproval were highly correlated at statistically significant levels.
25 children with severe speech defects and receiving specialized therapy in a camp were randomly assigned to either a physical education program with an emphasis on recreational games or perceptual-motor instruction. All children were administered 6 pre- and posttests of language and speech proficiency. The recreation games group achieved slightly more statistically significant improvements.
