Investigations carried out on 19 dogs demonstrated that under ether anesthesia and with the anesthetic concentration in the arterial blood of 126.4 +/- 15.4 mg% the activity of the glucose-6-phosphate and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenases in the optic and auditory areas of the brain cortex as well as in the median thalamus experiences no significant changes.

B1-hypovitaminosis was simulated in white rats of 150-170 g body mass by means of hydroxythiamin administration at a daily dose of 4, 40 or 100 mg/kg within 10 days. Concentrations of NADP and NADPH, main cofactors of 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, were dissimilarly altered in the animal liver tissue depending on the antimetabolite dose administered. Kinetic characteristics of 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase isozymes were shifted towards more active binding of substrates in the hypovitaminosis. Total pool of metabolites, realized via 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase catalytic reactions and regulated by concentration of substrates, was especially sensitive to alterations in the NADP/NADPH ratio. In severe B1-hypovitaminosis caused by hydroxythiamin the rate of oxidative reactions was increased 3-10-fold.

The effect of a long-term (14 days) combined introduction of mestranol and noiethinodrel in contraceptive doses on the activity of pentosophosphate routes enzymes of the carbohydrates metabolism, that of acid and basic ribonucleases and on the level of summary nucleinic acids in the uterus and liver in sexually mature female-rats was studied. It was found that the concentration of summary nucleinic acids in the tissues increases under the effect of the drug, the oxidative reactions enzymes become more active, while the activity of non-oxidative reactions enzymes of the pentosophosphate route and of acid and basic endoribonucleases in inhibited.

The experiments were carried out on 84 white rats. At the beginning of hypokinesia activity of glucose-6-phosphate and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenases in the adipose tissue was decreased and in the liver, skeletal muscles and heart increased. On the 30th hypokinetic day the enzyme activity was nearly normal. The dehydrogenase activity increased by the 60th hypokinetic day in the adipose tissue and by the 90th day in the liver and heart, whereas in skeletal muscles it decreased at that experimental stage. After completion of hypokinesia the enzyme activity increased. Possible relationship between these changes in the enzyme activity and disorders of lipid metabolism during hypokinesia is discussed.

Partial denervation of the liver evoked the dissection of subphrenic vagus nerves and nerves of the hepatogastric duodenal ligament tissue stimulates synthesis of pentoses in the liver due to the oxidative mechanism and inhibits the process of unoxidative formation of pentoses. Three-four weeks after the operation one may observe a 72% increase in the activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase in the liver tissue and a 29 and 21% drop in the activity of transketolase and enzymes, respectively, participating in metabolism of ribose-5-phosphate. The content of soluble proteins in the liver with deneravation is unchanged. A correlation is observed between these changes and those in the content of nucleic acids, an opinion is confirmed on the autonomous character of the oxidative and unoxidative phases of the pentose cycle.

The authors examined dynamicaly from the third day to the third month the activity of enzymes, participating in glycolysis (ALD, PK, LDH), pentosemonophosphate shunt (G6P-DH), citric cycle (MDH, INDH) in the myocardium of rats with hypertension, induced by the method of Selye, modified by Kolarova. There were phase changes in enzymatic activity in the myocardium, manifested at the first stages by lowering (LDH, ALD, INDH) or elevation (MDH, PK, G6-DH). The activity of all examined enzymes was over that of the control group on the thirteenth day, while there were also oscillations on the nineteenth day. Only the actimity of G6-DH revealed a progressive elevation during the whole experimental period. The changes in the enzymic activity of the myocardium at the first stages were interpreted as a sign of nonspecific adaptation to the changed conditions of heart activity. The later changes were manifestations of the disturbances at various metabolic links, which were unevenly involved in the processes of myocardial hypertrophy.
