Leiomyosarcoma of the mesocolon.

Retroperitoneal sarcomas are rare tumours. Although exceptional in the mesocolon, they can yet be considered as a special kind of retroperitoneal tumours. Leiomyosarcoma represents from 25 to 30% in this location. Clinical features are rarely obvious because the symptomatology depends upon displaced or compressed adjacent organs. Most authors agree on using the CT-scanner or MRI as diagnostic tools. However, the diagnosis is made after a histologic examination permitting the establishment of its grade and margins. Only a surgical treatment can offer prolonged survival and this can be improved if there is a low histological grade and total excision. The mesocolic location facilitates a radical removal and may therefore offer a better long-term prognosis.

Clear cell carcinoma of the sigmoid mesocolon: a tumor of the secondary müllerian system.

Clear cell carcinoma was found in the sigmoid mesocolon of a 54-year-old woman, 6 years after the removal of all ovarian tissue. This tumor is of müllerian origin. In addition to the müllerian structures proper--the fallopian tubes, uterus, cervix, and upper vagina--a "secondary müllerian system" is present diffusely throughout the pelvis and lower abdomen. This case represents a tumor of the secondary müllerian system.

Narrowing of the proximal jejunal limbs at their passage through the transverse mesocolon: a potential pitfall of laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.

OBJECTIVE: We reviewed images obtained in patients who had recently undergone laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedures, noting radiographic appearances and possible complications. CONCLUSION: In five (45%) of 11 patients, we observed a focal area of circumferential narrowing of the proximal jejunal Roux-en-Y loop. This narrowing corresponded to the site of multiple circumferential sutures from the edge of the hiatus created in the transverse mesocolon to the serosa of the traversing jejunal Roux-en-Y loop as the latter courses superiorly to join the gastric pouch. This narrowing should not be confused with localized ischemia or another disease process.

[Solid and papillary tumor on ectopic pancreas in transversal mesocolon].

A solid and papillary neoplasm of a mesocolonic ectopic pancreas, 6 cm of diameter, was found by chance in a woman age 33 and resected surgically. The histologic study showed a well delimited tumor made up of uniform eosinophilic cells forming papillae, with solid and cystics areas. Pancreatic tissue was detected in the periphery of the neoplasm. The presence of ectopic pancreas with a solid and papillary tumor is extremely rare. We have only found one case in the literature (5).

[Cystic lymphangioma of the transverse mesocolon].

Intraabdominal cystic lymphangiomas are very rare. One new case of the disease is presented here: a 10-year-old boy undergoes laparotomy because of suspected appendicitis acuta, a cystic tumor in the transverse mesocolon is found and a segmental colon resection with primary anastomosis performed. Histologic examination of the tumor leads to the diagnosis of cystic lymphangioma. The postoperative course is uneventful. History, clinical features, diagnosis, therapy and pathologic-anatomical findings are discussed and the literature is reviewed.
