[Morphometry of endocrine organs. 2. Karyometry of dog and swine thyroid glands following administration of TURISYNCHRON and SUISYNCHRON].

Administration of TURISYNCHRON (metallibure) to dogs at 1 mg/kg/day for six months did not affect the histological structure of the thyroid, but the volume of nuclei of thyroid epithelial cells was reduced by one-third. In pigs given 100 mg/animal daily for 100 days, this nuclear contraction amounted to only 11%. Metallibure zinc complex (TURISYNCHRON-Z, SUISYNCHRON) given at 1 and 10 mg/kg/day for six months had a similar action on the thyroid.

[Possible use of DNA cytophotometry and karyometry for the cytological diagnosis of human prostate cancer].

Karyometric and cytophotometric parameters of the prostate epithelium are examined on the pattern of aspiration biopsy under benign hyperplasia and carcinoma of different grades of differentiation. The results obtained suggest that the distribution of the nuclei, according to their volume and DNA values, and the calculated index of DNA accumulation per cell may be used for differential diagnostics of the prostate cancer and for making the morphological type of tumor more precise.

[Histomorphometry and karyometry studies of variably differentiated rectal cancers in humans before and after radiotherapy].

Histo-morphometrical and karyometric examinations were carried out on biopsy and surgical samples from patients with cancer of the rectum. The aim of the examination was, to work out the structural morphometric characteristics of the differentiated cancer of the rectum high- and middle level and to list the quantitative morphological changes of the cancer caused irradiation with different total doses. The results of the histo-morphometric and karyometric examinations demonstrate, that both of the examined differential grades of the cancer differ less in their nucleus morphology but more in their composition of the parenchyma and stroma. Of the three total doses of irradiation the two doses using 2,500 and 4,000 rad proved to be effective as regards the structural changes of the tumor.

Karyometry and cytophotometry of oligodendroglial DNA in the corpus callosum of rats treated with vicristine during the second part of foetal life.

The effect of transplacentally administered vincristinee on postnatal developmental events occurring in the oligodendroglial cell nuclei of the corpus callosum were studied by means of an automatic analyzer of microscopic pictures "Morphoquant" (VEB Carl Zeiss Jena, GDR). Karyometric and cytophotometrically determined developmental changes of the DNA content were studied in both, the vincristine treated and control rats aged 3, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days. vincristine was administered to pregnant rats four times during the second term of gestation, the single dose containing 0.01 mg of Vincristin per kg of body weight. In the Vincristin treated animals we have found an advanced developmental increase of the perimeter, the surface and convexion areas of oligodendroglial cell nuclei as well as statistically significant differences of parameters characterizing the nuclear shape. In comparison with control animals, the intoxicated ones demonstrated a higher DNA content in oligodendroglial cell nuclei both during the premyelinating (7 days postnatal) and during the early stage of myelination (14 and 21 days postnatal).

[Investigations on the pathogenesis of changes in somatic growth of Lymnaea stagnalis (Gastropoda:Pulmonata) experimentally infected with parthenites of trematode Opisthioglyphe ranae (Digenea:Plagiorchiida). II. Karyometry and aerobic metabolism of the neurosecretory cells].

Enlargement of nuclear volume of the neurosecretory cells producing growth hormone (light green cells of cerebral ganglia) was observed in experimentally infected snails. In addition to noted earlier increase in the amounts of: neurosecretory material, RNA and the loose fraction of nuclear chromatin in the perikarya, it can be the next argument for the influence of the parasite on the activity of the hormonal system cells of its intermediate host. Found in infected individuals, the increase in the succinate dehydrogenase activity in these perikarya, in the absence of changes in their morphology (which are an indications of the release of the adaptative type of cellular response), indicates that examined cells supply their energy need in the way of aerobic metabolism reactions. This increase in their activity is in the range of physiological standard.

[Karyometry of the tumor epitheliocytes in the dysplastic sections of serous tumors and in serous cancers of the ovaries].

With the help of Integral-2MT cytoanalyzer, the average area of nuclei and the percentage of epitheliocytes with small, medium and large nuclei at the site of dysplasia of serous cysts and serous ovarian carcinomas have been evaluated. An increase in the degree of dysplasia of tumorous epithelium is associated with an increase in the average area of nuclei and the number of cells with medium nuclei. A decrease in the degree of differentiation of serous ovarian carcinomas is accompanied by increasing percentage of cells with large nuclei. Preoperative chemotherapy does not affect this regularity.
