Use of the remount jig as an aid in relining upper dentures.

A remount jig record is used to reposition the teeth of an upper denture reline in their original position. A face-bow record is used to position the upper edentulous cast in the correct relation to cranial planes. The impression may be developed as is done in any other impression procedure, and the repositioning can be accomplished in the laboratory with reasonable assurance that the upper denture is positioned occlusally as it was when the denture was constructed originally. This procedure relieves the dentist of the monumental task of making a reline impression and adjusting the position of the denture in one three-minute operation.

Mylohyoid ridge reductions as an aid to success in complete lower dentures.

A common problem of the mylohyoid ridge in the resorbed edentulous mandible is discussed. A surgical technique that is simple, though efficient, is described for the elimination of the anomaly in the ambulant patient. A prosthetic technique is suggested for maximum advantage to be gained from the operation.

Indicator pastes: their behavior and use.

Indicator pastes were subjected to a laboratory investigation and a clinical trail. The tests showed: 1. An increase in temperature increased the rate of flow of the pastes. 2. An increase in applied pressure increased the rate of the flow of the pastes. 3. Pastes containing a small percentage of filler were compressed to a smaller thickness than those containing a greater percentage of filler. 4. The zinc oxide-hydrogenated oil mixture demonstrated a biphasic flow pattern. Pressure Indicator Paste demonstrated a simple flow pattern. 5. Similar tests did not give identical results. However, the characteristics of flow curves for similar tests were consistent. 6. A clinical trial using eight subjects showed no marked differences between three indicator pastes but did show significant differences between the interpretations of paste patterns by four dentists. This evidence suggests that the nature of the suspension medium affects both the type of flow and the rate of flow of an indicator paste. The percentage composition of filler affects both the final film thickness and the rate of flow. Improved criteria for the interpretation of paste patterns must be developed before clinical differences in paste behavior are noted.

The effect of relining on the accuracy and stability of maxillary complete dentures--an in vitro and in vivo study.

A technique was developed for evaluating in vitro the accuracy or fit of experimental denture bases using a low-viscosity impression material for determining the space between the master die and the processed denture base. These measurements indicated that relining heat-cured maxillary denture bases with autopolymerizing acrylic resin improved their adaptation to the ridges. Interestingly, if no teeth were present in the heat-cured denture base, markedly less distortion occurred after processing. Limited clinical measurements on the stability of maxillary dentures in function showed no statistically significant change in stability after relining, but the trend was toward increased stability with the relined denture.
