[X-ray therapy and various immunologic indices in the complex treatment of suppurative-inflammatory processes].

The antiinflammatory roentgenotherapy was used in 150 patients with pyo-inflammatory processes (post-operative inflammatory complications, periappendicular infiltration, hydradenitis, osteo-articular panaritium, mastitis). Good and satisfactory results were obtained in 92,6% of the patients. Positive dynamics of the T-lymphocyte level and increased activity of the blood serum lysozyme proved to be good prognostic signs.

Our experience with the treatment of nasopharyngeal tumors.

An analysis of a group of 78 patients suffering from nasopharyngeal cancer treated during a period of 15 years is discussed. The ratio of males to females was 1.6 : 1, with a maximum incidence in the 4th and 5th decade. There was a predominance of carcinomas (60 patients) over malignant lymphomas (18 patients). With respect to the stage of the carcinomas, the largest group of patients (36 individuals) could be classified as Stage III. At the beginning of the treatment regional metastases were present in 68% of the carcinomas. Nasopharyngeal tumors were treated only by radiotherapy; in the earlier period by conventional roentgenotherapy, recently by telegammatherapy 60Co only. The 5-year survival rate of patients with carcinomas was 25%, of those with malignant lymphomas was 27.7%. Among carcinomas we found better results in lymphoepitheliomas, among the lymphomas in lymphocytic lymphomas. The present study also discusses the significance of some cofactors that may play a role in respect of prognosis, treatment and final clinical evaluation of patients with nasopharyngeal cancer.

[Prognostic factors of the probability of the occurrence of complications in the radiation therapy of malignant neoplasms].

The authors present an analysis of the causes of radiation induced complications in 383 patients referred to the Chair of Clinical Radiology from different medical institutions of the country. It was found that under distant gamma therapy, to prevent the development of complications the value of TDF-factor should not exceed 105--110, for the associated radiotherapy--130--140, and that for close focal roentgenotherapy--130--150. In vast majority of patients (95.3%) the complications resulted from surpassing the normal tissue tolerance. To prevent radiation injuries it is suggested to take into consideration the TDF-factor values, while in planning radiotherapy to choose such schedules of irradiation, which preclude any surpassing of the tolerance of normal tissues and organs adjacent to the tumor.

[Treatment of purulent and necrotic lesions of the lower extremities in patients with diabetes mellitus].

The results of complex treatment of 172 diabetic patients with purulent-inflammatory lesions of the lower extremities, using intensive purposeful antibacterial and desintoxicative therapy, timely and sufficient opening of purulent foci as well as administration of desagregants, stimulators of reparative processes, anabolic hormones, vitamins etc., are presented. Correction of carbohydrate metabolism was performed by means of insulin therapy according to the optimized scheme. Use of UV irradiation of the blood of the patients and local antiinflammatory roentgenotherapy contributed to increase in effectiveness of treatment. Incidence of amputation of an extremity at a level of a thigh was 20.2%, lethality-8.1%.

[Clinical aspects and treatment of chondrosarcoma in children and adolescents].

The clinical cours and treatment of chondrosarcoma in 9 children, aged from 8 to 16 years, are analysed. Only provisional and not persistant effect was gained after roentgenotherapy. Resection of the bone with tumor removal also failed to provide radical intervention in all patients, but one, and recurrences were noted 3-12 months following the resection. However, chondrosarcoma in children is continuously observed to be a local process and is characterized by late metastasization, due to that its prognosis is more favourable than in other malignant bone tumors.

[Cancer of the vulva].

An analysis of 66 observations of cancer of the external genitalia is presented. This lesion was most frequently observed in patients aged from 51 to 75 (58 observations). Pruritus in the external genitalia region was the predominant symptom (47 cases), a more rare on--the appearance of tumor and pains in the vulva region (27 cases). In 45 females tumor was located in large and small pudendal lips, in 19-in the clitoris, and in 2-in the region of the commissura labiorum posterior. In examination 8 patients showed cancer of the vulva, stage 1, 24-stage II, 31-stage III and 3-stage IV. In 23 patients the combined treatment was employed, which initial step included short-focus roentgenotherapy of the primary tumor and deep x-ray irradiation of regional lymph nodes, 43 patients were subjected only to radiotherapy. An average survival in the patients following the treatment in all stages was 3.47 years. In the combined therapy it was 4.35, in radiotherapy-2.6 years.

[Pyrimidine derivatives increase antibiotic therapy efficacy after ionizing irradiation].

Pyrimidine derivatives increased the antibiotic therapy efficacy in albino rats irradiated with RUM-7 apparatus for close-focus roentgenotherapy. 2-Methyl-4-amino-6-oxypyrimidine was twice as efficient as oxymethyluracil and 6 times as efficient as methyluracil in the stimulation of the skin reparative regeneration. When the total irradiation was performed with LUCH-1 apparatus in a dose of 6 Gy the pyrimidine derivatives also increased the antibiotic therapy efficacy. After the prophylactic use of the pyrimidine derivatives for 7 days prior to the total irradiation their therapeutic effect increased, the level of the exudative component lowered, the tissue epithelization increased, the terms of the wound healing decreased and the animal lifespan increased.

[Acute radiation reaction and its healing time after skin cancer radiotherapy in elderly patients].

In group of 106 patients over 70 with skin cancer radiation-induced reaction and its healing time were evaluated. Mean age was 78.3 years. The control group consisted of 35 patients under 70 with average age 59 years. All patients were treated under conventional roentgenotherapy conditions with dose fractionation. Intensification of acute radioreaction was classified according to RTGO and EORTC scores. In elderly patients the first grade of reaction was twice lower than in control group. Average healing time of radiation-induced reaction in the whole elderly group was 3 weeks longer in comparison with controls. Mean healing time of the same reaction intensity grade was also longer in elderly. In the first grade of changes it was 1 week longer. 3 and 1 week there were in second and third degree respectively.
