The economic consequences of demographic aging in developed countries are assessed. "They include falls in savings ratios, rising inequalities, as well as consequences for productivity and the financing of pension schemes. The impact on long term growth is subsequently analysed. This is done by forecasting potential output, given reductions in the working populations of these countries.... Assuming that technology continues to advance as it has done since 1973, these demographic changes will lead to a clear fall in growth for both the United States and Japan. In Europe adapting to this new demographic context should be easier, as growth in recent decades has been based more on productivity gains." (SUMMARY IN ENG)

"Changes in the number of households depend to a large extent on demographic developments. According to the Dutch household forecasts as much as 80% of the increase in the number of households between 1995 and 2010 will be caused by changes in the age structure and only 20% by changes in behaviour. The large impact of changes in the age structure on the number of households can be explained by the fact that the household situation of people is strongly correlated with their age." The authors discuss the regional REGARD model, developed by Statistics Norway to analyze the regional implications of macroeconomic development of employment, labor force, and unemployment. "In building the model, empirical analyses of regional producer behavior in manufacturing industries have been performed, and the relation between labor market development and regional migration has been investigated. Apart from providing a short description of the REGARD model, this article demonstrates the functioning of the model, and presents some results of an application."

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this paper is to discuss the changed trends of population, oral diseases and their effects on Chinese dentistry. METHODS: The demographic and epidemiologic data published in recent books and journals were reviewed and analyzed. RESULTS: As the 21st century approached, dentistry in China would face many changing trends and challenges. 1. a growing population and an aging population: The two sub-populations with the greatest need for prevention and treatment were children and old patients who were outpacing the supply of dental manpower. 2. The changed dental disease patterns: The prevalence of caries was increasing and more than two thirds of Chinese suffered from periodontal disease. The traditional dental approaches have not been able to satisfy the needs of Chinese. CONCLUSION: The challenge created by these demographic, economic and advances in dental technology is changing Chinese dentistry.
The "Values" model was conceived to integrate complex systems variables including genetic, memetic and demographic variables. Their respective integration in the "Values" model algorithm should enable us to better predict and estimate possible developments within complex anthropological systems such as human communities. The aim of this investigation was to test the ability of the "Values" model to approximately simulate the development and interaction of population size, kinship coefficient, environment and values within an imaginary population. The purpose of our research is to establish a basic model that could be used to simulate the behavior of complex anthropological systems, compare such simulations to available historical data for validation, predict demographic, socio-cultural, psychological and biological developments and finally set guidelines or suggestions for sustainable development of investigated communities.
