"In this...article, we concentrate our attention on migration from the Mediterranean region and Sub-Saharan Africa (South-North migration) and from Central and Eastern Europe (East-West migration).... After briefly discussing history and causes of these migration flows, we will address where European immigration stands to date. In conclusion we discuss what is likely to happen within the Europe-centred migration system in the foreseeable future."
Trends in the ethnic composition of the Kuwaiti labor force during recent years are discussed, and the effects on the country's development are assessed. The focus is on the likely shift since the Gulf War toward importing cheaper Asian labor. "The purpose of this paper is to assess whether this is a realistic alternative towards reducing the overall cost of the expatriate labour force. Which areas of the economy would be most promising in this regard? What are the economic costs? The implicit assumption throughout the analysis...is that the country will quickly restore its economy to the structure existing at the time of the invasion." (SUMMARY IN FRE AND SPA)

"This article reviews the main trends in the literature and research on international labor migration in the Middle East over the period 1974-84. This literature, which is characterized as descriptive and judgemental, falls into three broad categories: first, international and national overviews of migration trends, remittance flows and their macro-economic impact; second, descriptions of government policies designed to organize and regulate labor migration; third, at the community and household scale, comparative studies of migrant and non-migrant behavior in labor-sending countries."
