The first on-line laser spectroscopy of cooled fission fragments is reported. The r ions, produced in uranium fission, were extracted and separated using an ion guide isotope separator. The ions were cooled and bunched for collinear laser spectroscopy by a gas-filled linear Paul trap. New results for nuclear mean-square charge radii, dipole, and quadrupole moments are reported across the N=60 shape change. The mean-square charge radii are found to be almost identical to those of the Sr isotones and previously offered modeling of the radial changes is critically reviewed.
The title complex, [ZrCl2(C4H8O)2(C14H14N)2].0.5C7H8, was prepared in an unusual manner by utilizing [Mg[N(CH2Ph)2]2] as a ligand transfer reagent. The Zr atom lies in a distorted octahedral environment where steric repulsion from the large dibenzylamino ligands leads to a widening of the N-Zr-N angle [99.95 (9) degrees ] and corresponding compression of other angles [Cl-Zr-Cl 160.95 (3) degrees and O-Zr-O 78.22 (7) degrees ]. This distortion is compared with those found in the previously determined structures of the dimethylamino and diethylamino analogues.
In the title compound, [ZrCl(2)(C(14)H(12)N)(2)(C(4)H(8)O)(2)].1.5C(6)H(6), the Zr atom is pseudo-octahedral, with two Cl atoms in trans positions and two tetrahydrofuran molecules in cis positions. The two 3,6-dimethylcarbazolyl ligands are in cis positions and are canted with respect to one another. The two Zr-N distances are 2.1148 (18) and 2.1236 (18) A, and the N-Zr-N angle is 95.08 (7)degrees. The title compound crystallizes as the benzene solvate, with one of the benzene molecules positioned on an inversion center.
Poly[caesium [[mu6-carbido-dodecakis-mu2-chloro-hexazirconium]-tri-mu2-chloro]], Cs[(Zr6C)Cl15], crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pmma. The structure is built up of two symmetry-independent [(Zr6C)Cl(i)12Cl(a)6/2] cluster units (where ;inner' and ;outer' ligands are denoted by i and a, respectively), which are three-dimensionally connected to form a cluster network through all six halogen atoms on the exo positions of each octahedral (Zr6C) metal unit, forming Cl(a-a) bridges. The caesium cations are distributed in several voids within the cluster network. 16 of the 23 independent atoms lie on crystallographic special positions.
