Hyperkeratosis palmoplantaris (Papillon-Lefèvre syndrome). A case report.

A 16-year-old female presented with a severe chronic periodontitis and with associated hyperkeratotic lesions of her palms and soles. Investigations revealed it as a case of hyperkeratosis palmoplantaris (Papillon-Lefèvre syndrome), which is a rare form of an ectodermal dysplasia. Previously it was speculated that this disease entity is not all that uncommon in Nigeria especially amongst the rural population. However, recent investigations revealed that this is not correct.

A temporary-permanent splint.

A method of temporary permanent splinting has been presented which enables the clinician to stabilize anterior teeth aesthetically and rigidly without resorting to cast restorations. The method utilizes an acid-etch composite technique with T.M.S. Pins and has shown itself to be a rapid, cosmetic and durable alternative to either the temporary intra-coronal wire ligation or the more permanent gold prosthesis.

Periodontal and prosthodontic treatment for patients with advanced periodontal disease.

This article describes prosthetic management of advanced periodontally involved dentitions. Overall prognosis and means of assessing scores to prospective abutment teeth are presented. Esthetic treatment and prognosis of surgically elongated dentitions is discussed, and a method to determine what the patient will look like after completion of treatment is presented. A specific approach using ceramometal restorations with modified long bevel and minimum gold collar and the use of electrosurgery for subgingival access is covered.
