[Allergens responsible for occupational eczemas in hairdressers].

Allergens responsible for occupational contact dermatitis occurring in hairdressers are reviewed. The subject is of topical interest as far as the number of reports on occupational skin diseases shows a considerable increase in the last years. Only a--not yet available--careful analysis of the expertises in the possession of the competent Employers Liability Insurance Association can disclose the relevance of individual sensitizers contained in hair care products to occupational contact eczemas of hairdressers.

This article explores certain risk management techniques and the role these techniques play in the investigation and evaluation of claims. The claims experience of one carrier, Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Co., is provided. A general overview of the elements involved in a claims investigation is provided.

Claims made versus current professional liability.

Certain classes of insurance, such as professional liability insurance, have been targeted for substantial price increases or changes in the manner policies are written as carriers shift their portfolios to more profitable industries. In 1979, when interest rates were soaring, the industry cut premium prices to attract policyholders. Later, when interest rates dropped, the shortfall left the industry with insufficient return on their investments to compensate for reduced premium income.

Standards applicable to owners and operators of hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facilities; liability coverage requirements--Environmental Protection Agency. Final rule and notice of extension of effective date.

The effective date for qualifications of insurers providing liability insurance used to satisfy liability coverage requirements applicable to owners or operators of hazardous waste management facilities, as such requirements are included in 40 CFR Parts 264 and 265, is extended from July 15, 1982, to October 16, 1982. The effective date for the rest of the liability coverage requirements remains July 15, 1982. This extension is being provided to allow 6 months between the date of promulgation and the effective date for the insurer qualification provision, in accordance with Section 3010(b) of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976, as amended. During the period between July 15 and October 16, 1982, owners or operators may use certificates of insurance or policy endorsements that do not certify to the qualifications of the insurer.

Medicare program; services covered under automobile, liability, and employer group health insurance--Health Care Financing Administration. Proposed rule.

The Health Care Financing Administration is proposing regulations dealing with services covered under automobile medical, no-fault, or liability insurance and services to end-stage renal disease beneficiaries who are also insured under employer group health plans. These rules are required by sections 953 of the Omnibus Reconciliation Act of 1980 which excludes from Medicare coverage any services for which payment has been made or can reasonably be expected to be made under an automobile or liability insurance policy or plan or under no-fault insurance, and section 2146 of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1981 which makes medicare benefits secondary to benefits payable under an employer group health plan for services furnished to end-stage renal disease beneficiaries during a specified period of up to 12 months. The intent is to conserve Medicare funds and prevent duplicate payments by Medicare.
