[Confirmation of the partial insertion of a steroidal diamine between the base pairs of deoxyribonucleic acid : study by 270 MHz proton nuclear magnetic resonance of the complexes of delta-5-dehydromalouetine with DNA of calf thymus gland and with poly(dA-dT)].

Delta 5- dehydromalouetine , a bis-quaternary steroidal diamine, has been selected for a 270 MHz proton NMR study of its binding to nucleic acids. Due to the presence of five well-identified probes located all around the molecule a precise description of the interaction could be achieved. The chemical shifts of the protons in the complex with Calf thymus DNA were followed at constant temperature whereas the complex with poly (dA-dT) was studied by varying the temperature. A good agreement between the data of the two kinds of experiments was obtained: shielding of the diamine protons and unshielding of the base protons on complex formation. This demonstrates partial insertion of the steroid backbone between unstacked base pairs.

[Effect of chorionic gonadotropin on the structure and endocrine function of the thymus gland in mice].

The thymic secretory function changes in the pubertal female mice under the influence of chorionic gonadotrophin (CG). The latter is activated after administration of hormone in doses, corresponding to its levels in animals in different terms of pregnancy and is depressed with doses, greatly exceeding those levels. The lack of the effect in thymectomized mice testifies to the realization of the modulating CG action at the thymus level. Changes of mass and cellularity of the thymus and spleen reflect dose-dependent alteration of the thymocyte migration rate.

[Influence of genital hormones on guinea pig thymus gland cytology].

The changes of the thymic cytologia under the action of genital hormones were studied in giunea pigs. The conclusion of the experiments was: the oestrogens are the only hormones to induce a fast and complete involution of the thymic tissue with appearance of Foa-Kurloff cells'. The cell seems to have all the necessary characters to be the morphologic substratum of an eventual cytocrine secretion of the thymus.

[Effects of T-activin on the morphology of the thymus gland in experimental injury of the lower limbs in mice (anti-stress effect of T-activin)].

The effect of T-activin on thymic involution under the experimental trauma of femur was studied. T-activin in a dose of 1.0 micrograms/mouse was injected into young male (CBA X C57BL)F1 mice weighing 17.5-19.0 g before (I injection) or immediately after the fracture of the femur during 3 days. Morphometric analysis of the thymus was made 1, 5, 10 and 15 days after the trauma. It was found that T-activin suppressed the involution of the thymus, induced by the trauma, during the first 5 days and accelerate the process of its regeneration. It is suggested, that T-activin displays protective anti-stress effect on the mouse thymic involution.
