Thiazole orange positive platelets in a dog with Evans' syndrome.

We examined transition for the percentage of reticulated platelets (RP%) and platelet count in a canine case of Evans' syndrome. The result demonstrated that measurement of the RP% can be useful in evaluating platelet production in the bone marrow and response to treatment.

Carbonic anhydrase activity modulators: synthesis of inhibitors and activators incorporating 2-substituted-thiazol-4-yl-methyl scaffolds.

A small series of 2-[4-(4-substituted-phenylsulfonyl)phenyl]-4-chloromethylthiazoles has been used as a scaffold for the preparation of carbonic anhydrase (CA) inhibitors and activators. For obtaining CA inhibitors, zinc-binding functions of the sulfamide and sulfamate type have been introduced into the molecules of these compounds, by reaction of the chloromethyl derivatives with sodium sulfamide/sodium sulfamate. For obtaining CA activators, the primary amino function has been introduced in these molecules by means of the Gabriel syntheses. The new sulfamide/sulfamates were effective CA II and CA IV inhibitors, but showed no inhibitory activity against isozyme I. The new amines on the other hand were much more effective CA I, II and IV activators compared to histamine, the lead compound used for their synthesis.

Synthesis of some new bis-thiazoles as possible anticancer agents.

Several new 5-(2,3-dihydrothiazol-2-yledinyl)rhodanines 3a-c and 5-(4-oxothiazolidinon-2-ylidenyl)rhodanine 4 were synthesized through the reaction of 5-thiocarbamoyl rhodanines 2 with phenacyl bromides or chloroacetic acid, respectively. The synthesis of the arylidene derivatives 5a-c were also described. The 5-(4-amino-5-cyano-2,3-dihydrothiazol-2-yledinyl)rhodanines 10a, b were obtained through reaction of rhodanines 1a, b with thiazolium salt 9. All the prepared compounds were screened for their anticancer activity using the NCI in vitro anticancer screening program. Three compounds showed promising anticancer activity against particular human cell lines used in the assay.

MAOI activity of some novel series of substituted thiazol-2-yl-hydrazines.

Three series of 2-thiazolylhydrazines were synthetized and evaluated for their MAO inhibitory (MAOI) activity, both by in vivo tests, to assay their influence on several MAOI activity-related parameters (the variation on blood pressure induced by tyramine and clonidine and L-amfetamine-induced hypermotility) and in vitro tests, to assay their effect on rat brain mitochondria by a kinuramine fluorimetric assay. In vivo, all the tested compounds significatively influenced the evaluative parameters used. As regards in vitro test, all compounds displayed MAOI activity at a concentration of 1.10(-4) mol.l-1, which was significant in several cases. In the discussion of the results, the influence of the structure on the biological activity of the prepared compounds was delineated.
