[Role of echography in neoplastic priapism].

The author, observing one case of neoplastic priapism, poiting on the role of ultrasonography in this disease. Its easy and quick execution, the possibility to repeat it, its low cost, its diagnostic sensibility in evaluating the infiltration of the cancer, permit us to consider it a screening technique of primary importance.

[Priapism: our experience in 9 cases].

We report our experience with 9 cases of priapism treated with decompressive puncture of the corpora cavernosa or with spongiosum-cavernosum shunt. No significant difference in result between these two surgical approaches was found: we conclude that early treatment is decisive for the preservation of potency.

[Post-traumatic priapism in a 11 year-old child].

We report on the case of a post-traumatic priapism in an 11-year-old boy. The clinical features and pathophysiological data showed that it was a high flow form with normal venous outflow; such a condition is very uncommon in the literature. Surgery aimed to perform a spongiocavernosal shunt and allowed recovery.

[High-flow priapism: early diagnosis and treatment].

Contribution of a new case of high-flow priapism as clinical expression of an arterial-cavernous fistula caused by perineal injury. The diagnostic sequence was blood gasometry by means of puncture-aspiration of the cavernous body to establish the 'high-flow' taxonomical diagnose, with negative response to the intracavernous injection of vasoactive drugs; it was followed by arteriography, showing that the clinical picture was the result of an arterial-cavernous fistula, allowing at the same time a superselective therapeutic embolization. Vascular permeability and erection recovery were confirmed by ECO-doppler at the two- month assessment.

[A case of priapism of the proximal corpora cavernosa].

A young man presented with a little perineal mass that was found to be secondary to partial priapism of the proximal corpora cavernosa. This is a very rare condition with only 3 previously recorded cases in the urology literature. The patient made a good recovery and was able to resume sexual activity.

[Priapism. Apropos of a case in a 10-year old child].

We report a case of post-trauma priapism observed in a 10-year old boy. Arterial blood flow was high with normal venous backflow, an exceptional situation in the child. Locoregional caudal anaesthesia was successful.

Priapism associated with psychotropic drugs.

Priapism, a rare, potentially dangerous but largely preventable condition, remains associated with the use of drugs, many of which are of the psychotropic variety. This article reviews various aspects of this condition, with a view to increasing awareness and understanding of the condition among clinicians.

Arterial high flow priapism role of radiology in diagnosis and treatment.

Radiological methods for diagnosis and treatment of arterial high flow priapism are described based on experience with 7 patients, 6 with lesions of the cavernous and 1 with a lesion of the spongious body and glans. Arteriography (7 patients) and cavernosography (6 patients) indicated the site of the lesion in all cases. Color Doppler was useful in the two patients examined. Embolisation was successfully performed in 4 patients and resulted in complete or partial detumescence in all Two patients had a 10 year history without complete loss of erectile function. They had markedly dilated veins at cavernosography, and one responded favorably to venoablative surgery.

Adult↗

[High-flow priapism after perineal trauma].

We report on the case of a 19-year-old man with post-traumatic high-flow priapism that appeared after riding on a mountain bike. Laboratory test (cavernous blood gas measurement) and image studies (color flow Doppler ultrasound and arteriography of the internal pudendal artery) that confirmed the diagnosis are depicted. He was successfully treated with selective percutaneous arterial embolization with autologous blood clot, recovering a normal erectile function.

[Priapism].

Priapism is the persistence of an erection that does not result from sexual desire. Diagnosis is based on history, clinical examination, diagnostic aspiration of blood and measurement of blood gas levels. The purpose of treatment is to increase corporeal outflow by aspiration and injection of alpha stimulating agents. In some rare cases selective angiographic embolisation or surgical resection of a bleeding intracavernous artery is required. Prognosis is good if diagnosis and treatment are not delayed.

Priapism--a complication of home parenteral nutrition?

A case of priapism in a patient receiving home parenteral nutrition is reported. To our knowledge this is the first such case to occur in a patient receiving home parenteral nutrition. The literature is reviewed and the possible aetiology discussed.
