[Resource and pharmacognostical study on Aralia echinocaulis].

OBJECTIVE: To provide fundamental information for its exploiting. Aralia echinocaulis by the resource and identification study on. METHOD: Resource survey and various identification were carried out. RESULT: The county level distribution and ecological environment of A. echinocaulis were initially observed. It mainly distributed in the mountainous areas of the Yangtze River basin and the south, and was usually used as folk drug. This study also displayed its morphological, microscopic and chemophysical identification features. CONCLUSION: The morphological features of original plant and crude drug, and the anatomical and chemophysical characteristics of A. echinocaulis are of identification value, and the species are also of greater development and utilization potentiality, but the resource does not support the sustainable utilization. Therefore, artificial propagation is apparently crucial to its exploitation.

[A study on quality standard for Herba Siegesbeckidae].

OBJECTIVE: To establish the qualitative and quantitative methods of Herba Siegesbeckiae. METHOD: A TLC method was used for qualitative identification and a HPLC analysis was applied for quantitative determination of Herba Siegesbeckiae with kirenol as the reference substances. RESULT: Chloroform-methanol-formic acid (25:5:1) as a mobile phase of TLC, the spot of kirenol can be easily detected; Methanol extracts of Herba Siegebeckiae were separated on a Polaris C18 column with acetonitrile-water (25:75) as mobile phase and kirenol was separated well. The average content of kirenol in Herba Siegebeckiae was 0.14%. A good linear relationship between the peak areas and injected amounts of kirenol in the range of 0.19-14.9 microg and the average recovery was 100.0% (RSD = 2.4%). CONCLUSION: The method can be used for qualitative identification and quantitation determination of Herba Siegesbeckiae.

[Analysis on the geologic background and physicochemical properties of soil for the cultivation of Panax notoginseng in Yunnan province].

OBJECTIVE: To study the relationship between the geo-authentic and geologic background system (GBS) and physicochemical properties of soil for the cultivation of Panax notoginseng. METHOD: The physicochemical properties of soil were analyzed, the geologic background system between producing areas of Yunnan and Guanxi of P. notogiseng was compared. RESULT: The distribution of P. notoginseng was restricted by GBS, The yellow-red soil of fragmentary rock mixed with carbonate seems to be most suitable for the growth. CONCLUSION: The most suitable soil for growing P. notoginseng is the neutral or weakly acidic soil with loam clay, particularly that with low base saturation percentage.

[Effects of seeding and sowing methods on the yields of root tubers of Curcuma longa].

OBJECTIVE: To provide a scientific basis for standardizing the cultivation method for Curcuma longa. METHOD: Plant heights and seeding numbers were sampled periodically, the plot yields were counted a tharvested. RESULT: The effects of seeding method on yields, plant height and number were significant. The effects of different sowing ways on the yields were very little. CONCLUSION: The hole seeding method using mother tuber or blastostyle bearing three to four knots was shown to be the best may, worthy to be widely applied in production.

[Sabina przewalskii community structure in the upper reaches of Minjiang River].

In this paper, the physiognomy and the structure of Sabina przewalskii community were studied by sample plot method. The results showed that in the life spectrum of the community, hemicryptophyte was dominated, but therophytes also occurred frequently, which presented some features of temperate vegetation. The vertical structure of the community was quite simple, consisting of tree layer, shrub layer and herb layer, and there were no interstratum plants and ground layer. Sabina przewalskii was the only species in the tree layer. In fruticose stratum, the important value of Spiraea alpina was 153.3, ranking the first; while in herb layer, the important value of Carex caespifosa ranked the first, amounting to 36.8. Among the three plot groups on different slopes, spiny-shrubs such as Berberis wilsonae and Caragana erinacea grown on small slope were more than those on bigger slope, so did unpalatable grasses such as Pedicularis axillaries and Artemisia tauguticat, which mainly owed to retrogressive succession caused by frequently grazing. The age and height structures of Sabina przewalskii population indicated a declining trend, and the community would develop retrogressively if disturbances (e.g., grazing) could not be reduced. The disturbance caused by livestock was more obvious in the plot group on small slope than on bigger slope, and livestock mainly destroyed seedlings and small trees, which made tree population be impossible to regenerate. The coverage of upper layers had a notable impact on the lower layers, and there wasn't any correlation between coverage and diversity index (Shannon-Wiener Index) in each layer.
