Course acupuncture with silver needles in auricular and corporal zones with additional effects of acupuncture zones in microneedle pressing produced a hypotensive action in 360 patients with initial essential hypertension. This effect registered in 82.1% of the patients exposed was not the only positive response as there was also a decline in hyperkinetic syndrome with a significant fall in energy consumption, reduction in circadian excretion of adrenaline, inhibition in the activity of plasma renin, normalization of lipid metabolism. The hypotensive effect in the majority of the patients persisted for 12 months. Hyperactivity of plasma renin, hypokinetic and extremely hyperkinetic hemodynamic types set limitations for the method efficacy.
Long-term follow-up results obtained for 143 patients suffering from spastic colon confirmed stressogenic character of the disease recurrences and high effectiveness of the measures affecting psychic and emotional spheres (drugs and acupuncture). Adequate therapeutic regimens support compensatory reserves of the patients and permit them to avoid invalidity.

The paper deals with the information noninvasive tool of echoencephalographic determination of cerebral intraventricular pressure in the newborns. With this mode, spinal fluid pressures were measured in 80 patients with prior degrees II and III asphyxia and in 25 healthy children in the early neonatal period. To enhance the efficiency of treating the fluid-hypertensive syndrome in the newborns with hypoxically afflicted central nervous system, an atraumatic method of reflex therapy, including superficial acupuncture, metallic plate acupuncture and application has been developed and proposed if chemotherapeutical loads are restricted. Recommendations to choose acupuncture points are given and the advantages of the method are analyzed.

Our essay is the first attempt to raise the problems related to the Hungarian alternative medicine and to outline the tendencies in this field. In our research we tried to find answers to the following questions: 1. whether the physicians in disadvantageous position show a greater tendency to start dealing with alternative medicine, in order to make up for their low income; 2. to what extent can the appearance of the alternative practitioners on the market be regarded as a practice aimed merely at acquiring the maximum income; 3. we wanted to know the opinion of the physicians in connection with the regulation of alternative medicine, and 4. whether the cast of mind interiorized at the university can place the physicians into a disadvantageous position, as contrasted to those alternative practitioners who do not possess a university degree, because the physicians, just owing to the assumption of specific values, may be ousted from certain areas of the market. Twenty-eight alternative practitioners having physician certificate were interviewed, all of them being residents in Budapest, by means of telephone conversations. Owing to the small number of the questioned persons, our results represent merely the tendencies. Based on the acquired data, a negative answer must be given to the first question: that means, at the time of conducting the survey, alternative medicine can not be regarded as a form of finding a way out for the physicians in disadvantageous position.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

We studied the somatosenory evoked potentials elicited by punctual bipolar stimulation of acupunctural points, with great and little primary sensory cortex representation. We found that different quality signal was obtained, apparently related with the extent of such cortical representation, wich indicate a possible important role of the cortex on the repetitive somatosensory afference.
The authors review the history of the research on acute neurosensory hypoacusis performed at the chair of ENT diseases of the I. M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Institute in 1916-1995. Etiological, pathogenetic, clinical, therapeutic and prophylactic aspects are considered. The investigators have developed and introduced into practice combined treatment of acute neurosensory hypoacusis the primary components of which are immediate hospitalization, chemotherapy in line with hyperbaric oxygenation and reflex therapy.
The paper reviews data on effective use of reflex therapy in laryngeal dysfunction: hypo- and hypertonicity dysphonia, spastic dysphonia, functional aphonia. Besides classical methods of acupuncture, effective were, especially in functional aphonia, novocaine blockades of laryngeal tender zones.
The authors have performed combined therapy of 300 patients with acute and subacute neurosensory hypoacusis varying in etiology, 45 patients with acute and subacute disorders of the olfactory analyzer caused by previous infections, emotional stress, inhalation of irritants. The treatment included a 10-day course of reflex therapy, antihypoxic and vasoactive drugs. As a result, a positive trend was observed in acoustic, vestibular and olfactory functions in the majority of cases. The scheme is proposed for routine otorhinolaryngological practice.
Methodologically, vestibulology rests on reflex theory. According to the authors, further progress in the study of physiological functions of the vestibular apparatus and design of new clinical methods is feasible provided due consideration is given to principles of functional systems theory, physiological activity and automatic theory.
Results are submitted of clinical and immunological investigation conducted in 30 pregnant women whose therapeutic programme incorporated acupuncture procedures apart from a complex of conventional antianemic measures. There have been examined pregnant women with varying degree anemia over different time periods of their pregnancy course. Antianemic treatment using acupuncture procedures in pregnant women with iron deficiency anemia was found to significantly activate the state of both cell-mediated and humoral immunity, mobilizing defensive and adaptive bodily reactions, being an efficient option designed to preserve the pregnant women's immunologic tolerance in the system mother-fetus.
