It appeared from the evaluation of a clinical test of the serotonin antagonist in 22 patients that DIVASCAN proved itself particularly effective in cases of ophthalmic migraine, in the second place in cases of migraena simplex with vegetative accentuation and likewise in cases of migraena cerebellaris. Besides this there is a favourable effect on the tendency to the edema and facial pain.

An association of hydrogen peroxide and drug cocktails was given interarterially and by slow arterial in 19 cases of lower extremity phlebopathy. Repair of ulcer lesions, even those of considerable extent, was achieved in a relatively short space of time, together with the disappearance of marked regression of subjective symptoms and local oedema.

The perfusion of a physiological sodium chloride (Ringer) solution, with the addition of 200 mg/l of Adona, yields a volumetrical effect which lasts for 4 h. After 4 h, the plasma volume shows an average increase of +13%. Perfusions of a physiological NaCl-solution by itself, or of a gelatine solution do not display any volumetrical effect 4 h after the beginning of the perfusion. In the majority of surgical interventions, the surgeon may replace the solution of gelatine and of Dextran which are expansive to store and not devoid of side effects, by a physiological sodium chloride (Ringer) solution to which have been added 2 ampouls of 100 mg/l each (20 ml/l) of Adona.
Using the modified model of Masugi's nephritis in rats, the antinephritic effects of sodium chondroitin sulfate (CS) and other drugs were evaluated by determining the biochemical parameters in urine, serum and renal cortex as well as light microscopic observation in kidneys by preventive and curative tests. In the preventive test where drug treatment was initiated at the same time as the injection of anti-kidney serum, CS (200 mg/kg p.o.) was effective in reducing serum triglyceride level, but was ineffective against other parameters. In the curative test where drug treatment was given from the 10th day after the induction of nephritis, CS (200 mg/kg p.o.) resulted in reductions of urinary excretions of protein and enzymes such as alkaline phosphatase and N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase, the inhibition of urinary fibrinolytic activity and reduction in levels of serum cholesterol and triglyceride. Moreover, histological examination indicated a significant reduction of the index of glomerular lesions by the treatment of this drug. Of other drugs, dexamethasone (0.1 mg/kg p.o.) was effective in both tests, while warfarin potassium (0.05 or 0.1 mg/kg p.o.) exerted a beneficial effect only in the preventive test. From these results, the effectiveness of CS in the curative test is probably due to promotion of healing of damaged tissue in the kidneys.

In recent years a number of new preparations from the group of antiserotonin agents (including cyproheptadine and carbazochrome) as well as beta-adrenergic blocking agents (propranolol) and clonidine have been introduced for prevention of migraine and similar headaches. The efficiency of these drugs was studied in a group of 9 selected cases--adolescents with severe migraine refractory to other methods of treatment. In 7 cases the improvement was noted. The results were compared with own observations on larger groups of adults and data from literature. Too small number of observed patients made impossible definite conclusions. It seems, however that in selected cases the use of these drugs in headaches of adolescents is useful.
The results obtained in patients suffering from essential epistaxis in paediatric age using a peptide fraction derived from the enzymatic hydrolysis of bovine factor VIII (VUEFFE-Baldacci) are reported. Carbazochrome sodium sulphate was employed for comparison purposes. Vueffe is effective in reducing haemorrhagic episodes without modifying the laboratory parameters investigated.
The effect of the serotonin antagonist iprazochrome was studied in 30 patients with atypical facial pain and 10 control nonpain volunteers. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of a single dose of iprazochrome and of its short-term administration in patients with chronic pain. Twelve of the 30 patients reported increased pain, 16 reported no effect, and two reported pain relief for some hours after taking iprazochrome. None of the controls reported any effect from iprazochrome. Four of the 12 patients who reported increased pain also reported increased pain in distant organs, especially in the joints. A hypothesis of the mechanism is presented and a possible use of iprazochrome as a diagnostic tool is suggested.
