Optic atrophy following jejunoileal bypass.
A 38-year-old woman presented with a bilateral, chronic, progressive optic neuropathy following jejunoileal bypass surgery for morbid obesity. Standardized A-scan orbital echography revealed grossly swollen optic nerve sheaths with a positive 30 degrees test, indicating increased subarachnoid fluid. Review of reported complications of jejunoileal bypass surgery revealed no similar case of what might be termed the "optic nerve ascites syndrome."
Optic atrophy after propoxyphene overdose: report of a case.
An 18-year-old woman suffered cardiac arrest and became comatose after ingesting a large amount of proxyphene and salicylates. Six days after admission, her pupils, initially miotic, became fixed and dilated. On the seventh day disc edema developed. This was due to optic neuritis from acute Darvon overdose. Within eight weeks the disc edema resolved into a pale white atrophy with severe loss of vision. This is the first reported case of optic atrophy after propoxyphene overdose.

Excellent response to apomorphine in Parkinsonism with optic atrophy unresponsive to oral antiparkinsonian medication.
Two patients presented with the cardinal symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD), which had developed slowly and progressively. One patient underwent brain imaging of the dopaminergic system, the results of which were compatible with PD. However, both patients showed no response to L-dopa or oral dopaminergic medication. They also had optic nerve atrophy of unknown etiology. The severe motor symptoms of both patients were conspicuously alleviated by apomorphine delivered subcutaneously. One patient underwent bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation, which also proved effective.

Familial bulbospinal neuronopathy with optic atrophy: a distinct entity.
A 61 year old woman and her 58 year old brother presented with the clinical picture of late onset progressive bulbar and spinal muscular atrophy with family history of involvement in successive generations. The sister also had optic neuropathy and the brother developed diabetes mellitus and sex hormone abnormalities. Neurophysiological and histopathological studies showed a pattern of motor and sensory neuronopathy. There was no abnormal expansion of CAG repeats in the androgen receptor gene. This family seems to have a previously unrecognised entity with the bulbospinal neuronopathy phenotype.
