[Maxillofacial prosthesis].

The purpose of constructing prosthesis to restore post-surgical deformities of the jaws and the face is to enable such patients to cope better with the difficult process of rehabilitation. Patients with post-surgical maxillofacial defects are presented in this article to illustrate how prosthodontic restoration could improve their functional or cosmetic disability.

Craniofacial osseointegration of a large midfacial bone-anchored combination maxillofacial prosthesis: a clinical report.

The combination of retentive clips and magnets has been used with favorable results for smaller facial prostheses. This patient's large midfacial defect created the need for an attachment design that would retain an intraoral obturator prosthesis and a large silicone facial prosthesis. The advantages of this design include having an obturator that is separately attached by clips to the framework. This allows the patient more ease in insertion and removal of the prosthesis. It also allows for better oral hygiene. The magnets aid the patient in the proper alignment of the facial prosthesis. The O-ring attachment was not a complicated technique in this patient's treatment. The patient can, without the use of a mirror, snap the rubber matrix O-ring attachment over the patrix attachment on the framework. This resulted in a retentive facial prosthesis, which helped the patient feel more secure. The silicone margins were well adapted to the patient's skin, which allows the use of thin translucent margins and the elimination of the inherent problems associated with the use of adhesives.

[Maxillofacial prosthesis fixed on endosseous implants. Apropos of 15 cases].

In the light of 15 cases of craniofacial defects due to trauma of carcinomas, the authors propose a new approach of the indications for craniofacial prostheses. Progress in materials (silicons) and treatments of maxillo-facial defects (titanium implants) have renewed the interest in maxillo-facial prostheses in maxillo-facial surgery. The advantages and disadvantages of classical methods of prosthesis fixation (on glasses or adhesives) and modern techniques of extra-oral implants (Swedish) are cause of the recent interest for prostheses in plastic surgery. New implants (German) and easier techniques induce a growing interest for extra-oral implants.

[The maxillofacial prosthesis: palatal obturators. The principles of treatment and rehabilitation in a case of buccorhinosinusal communication].

Having analysed the causes which lead to the loss of substance from the palatal vault, the different types of communication which then result, their evolution and the consequent functional defects are identified. By describing a complex clinical case, and having taken into consideration both aims and materials, the techniques of prosthetic rehabilitation are illustrated using obturator devices. The results of the various phases are examined.

[A study of color matching of maxillofacial prosthesis]

OBJECTIVE:The color difference between the patient's facial prosthesis and the surrounding skin have long puzzled both of dentist and patient.The purpose of the study was to introduce spectrophotometer into the color matching and set up a set of equations to increase the accuracy of the color matching,Referring to increase the accuracy of the color matching.Referring to color gamut,several sets of shade guide were made according to sixteen kinds of mixture-ratio of four pigments such as red,yellow,white and black,and every shade guide was measured.The mixture-ratio was related to the values of the CIE system by means of statistics,which resulted in the equations for color matching.In a word,use of the spectrophotometer may improve the accuracy of the the color matching of facial prosthesis.
