[The efficacy of enterosorption in an intensive contamination by radionuclides].

There has been tried in the treatment of those individuals (n = 259) actually in the ChNPS zone in May-June 1986, the enterosorbent CKH. Enterosorption in the complex of therapeutic measures applied for those patients presenting with intensive contamination with radionuclides provides effective detoxication, improves the functional state of the liver and kidneys, makes for a rapid elimination of radionuclides both by their direct adsorption in the intestinal lumen and mediate mechanisms, which effects lower morbidity rates in early periods after radioactive contamination.

Acute Disease↗

[A clinical assessment of the detoxifying effect of enterosorption in treating tuberculosis of the respiratory organs in children].

Effects were studied of a complex treatment combined with enterosorption on the clinical course of tuberculosis of the respiratory organs in children. The results obtained showed that the use of enterosorbents "Carbolong" or "Carbosfer" against the background of the chemotherapy adopted leads to a significant shortening of periods of detoxication, which fact is manifested by a quicker and more marked positive dynamics of intoxicative symptomatology by comparison with those patients having received a conventional course of chemotherapy only. In a comparative evaluation of the natural enterosorbent Carbolong versus synthetic enterosorbent Carbosfer they were shown to be of similar therapeutic activity.

[Enterosorption by nonstarch polysaccharides as a method of treatment of children with mercury poisoning].

Possibility of apple pectin "Classic AU-701" (E-440) usage as the means of detoxication was evaluated in 146 children of 7-14 years old with the increased content of mercury in urine. Under the influence of enterosorption the mercury withdrawal with urine increased, the period of mercury intoxication was shortened by 6 weeks, the hemogram and vegetative regulation indices of the affected children improved. The authors consider pectin to be effective in mercury intoxication treatment. It may be also used to increase intoxication resistance under exposure to chemicals.

Adaptation, Physiological↗

[Negative consequences of enterosorption in rheumatoid arthritis].

Aggravation of the patients with rheumatoid arthritis after enterosorption was apparently related to an increase in the rate of lipid peroxidation and to decrease in the antioxidation activity, which was expressed as a decrease in cholesterol and tocopherol content and an increase in ferrum and cuprum concentration in blood plasma. After-effect of alterations in phospholipid composition in blood plasma, erythrocytes, neutrophils and thrombocytes are also considered.

Adsorption↗

[Enterosorption in the preparation of patients for surgery of the large intestine].

Enterosorption was used in the preparation of 30 patients for operations for carcinoma of the colon in order to make detoxication of the organism and to reduce the amount of postoperative pyo-inflammatory complications. The effectiveness of detoxication was confirmed by laboratory analysis. The amount of postoperative complications were reduced from 40% to 17.6%, the duration of the postoperative period at the hospital became shorter - 19.3 days instead of 26.7.

[The effect of enterosorption on the status of central and peripheral hemodynamics in patients with diabetes mellitus].

A study is presented of the effect of carbon-containing sorbents on the state of the central and peripheral hemodynamics in patients with diabetes mellitus. It was established that a 10-day's course of enterosorption improved the peripheral and central hemodynamics that was manifested by an increase of the stroke and minute blood volume while the peripheral resistance reduced. Simultaneously the volume of work at the veloergometer increased.

[Evaluation of the effect of enterosorption on the human body in a changed gaseous medium].

The effect of enterosorption on biochemical and physiological parameters of 18 normal men was studied. The test subjects spent 7 days in an enclosed environment where the content of CO2 reached 3% and that of CO-40 mg/l3 during the last 8 hours of isolation. Beginning with the first day of enclosure 12 test subjects were given an enterosorbent at a dose of 0.75 g/kg 3 times a day. It is shown that a regular intake of an enterosorbent during exposure to increased concentrations of CO2 and CO affects beneficially central hemodynamics, reduces significantly plasma toxicity, content of C2-C5 hydrocarbons in the exhaled air and carboxyhemoglobin in blood. These findings may be very important for space and marine medicine because they demonstrate the efficacy of enterosorbents in protecting the human body from stress effects of an extreme environment.

[Clinical evaluation of enterosorption in the treatment of diabetics].

The internal use of carbon containing sorbents (enterosorption) in the treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus accelerates metabolic compensation and helps to decrease a dose of sugar reducing agents. The antiatherogenic mechanisms are activated, expressed in a decrease in the level of total cholesterol, triglycerides, lipids, the atherogenicity index and an increase in cholesterol in high density lipoproteins. The use of enterosorbents in the treatment of patients with disturbed cardiac rhythm reduces the time of treatment and eliminates the side-effects of antiarrhythmic drugs.

Enterosorption in oncotherapy.

Patients with lymphogranulomatosis undergoing radiotherapy according to the radical scheme were treated with fibrous carbon enterosorbent VESTA in tablets for 14 days (group I, 23 patients) from the moment of leukopenia development (lower then 2.2 x 10(9)/l) or were traditionally treated using parenteral administration of hemostimulants, hemosubstitutes and detoxicants (group II, 23 patients). After 14 days leukopenia was cured in 18 patients of group I (78%) and in 11 patients of group II (48%), with an average number of leukocytes in the patients of groups I and II growing by 2 and 1.6 times, respectively. The administration of enterosorbents enabled interruptions in radiotherapy caused by the development of leukopenia and the deterioration of health status to be greatly shortened and the requirements in expensive transfusion media to be sharply reduced.

[The use of enterosorption and plasmapheresis during the chemotherapy of lung cancer patients].

As many as 44 patients with stage IIIB and IV carcinoma of the lung (n = 27 and 17 respectively) were studied for clinical and laboratory manifestations of endogenous intoxication syndrome during the administration of CAPF chemotherapy treatments. The use for detoxicating purposes of siliceous enterosorbents and plasmapheresis both alone and combined resulted in alleviation of gastrointestinal and hematological complications and permitted improving the quality of the patients' lives.

[The effect of enterosorption on the local immune processes in a toxic lesion of the large intestine].

The local immune homeostasis changed of the colon play a significant role in the pathogenesis of toxic colitis, induced by lead acetate. Chronic toxic colitis is accompanied by a considerable redistribution of plasmocytes-producers of the main immunoglobulins classes in the colon walls towards a primary IgA producers increase, a correlation between them and the local immune reactions tension and destabilization as well. Enterosorbent SCNP-2 influence on a pathological process in the colon under the chronic lead intoxication results in the local immune reactions improvement in the studied organ, its functional and structural elements impairment rate reduction as well as their adaptive properties increase.

[Effect of enterosorption on the liver morphology anf function in mechanical jaundice].

Using histological, morphometric and biochemical methods, the comparative analysis of the effect of carbon-mineral enterosorbent SUMS-1 and of new generation aluminium oxide-based enterosorbent SIAL on the course of pathologic process--experimentally induced mechanical jaundice--was performed. The possibility of their use for the correction of morpho-functional disturbances of liver tissues is demonstrated. The conduction of clinical trials for the clinical application of these substances is recommended.
