An agent extracted from calf bone marrow has a potent hyperglycemic effect when injected into rabbits and causes a very high glycosuric release. This high glucose release come from generalized glycogenolysis, particularly in muscles, contrary to glucagon effect. This agent has glycoprotein characteristics. It might be named, according to its origin: "erthromyelin".

The total urinary estrogen values of women with glucosuria were studied by 5 different methods in 287 samples. The spectrophotometry values obtained by Ittrich's reaction have been influenced by urinary glucose concentrations. An increased glucose content appeared to be connected with a decrease of the hormone values if the hydrolysis of conjugates was performed by mineral acids. The most effective method was enzymatic hydrolysis used also for the determination of the acid labile fractions. The determination of total estrogen excretion is necessary for evaluating intrauterine fetal well-being in diabetic mothers.

In non-renal (diabetic) glucosuria we did not find any statistically real relations between the concentration of glucose in the urine and cryoscopically measured osmolality in children with healthy kidneys. The close negative correlation of the conductance of the urine to the concentration of glucose is not only to be explained by changes of the viscosity, but is an expression of an increased re-absorption of sodium as a result of a compensatory hyperaldosteronism. In renal insufficiency the electrolytic conductibility of the urine is lower than the borderline area of the normal, even when under influence of the glucose excretion the osmolality of the urine is still to be found normal. Thus also on the conditions of a considerable glucosuria we can further judge the concentrating ability of the kidney in diabetes mellitus with the help of the measurement of the conductance of the urine.
