[Variability of short tandem repeats on the human Y chromosome].

Nine rare (biallelic) mutations and six short tandem repeats (STR) mapping to the nonrecombining portion of the Y chromosome were genotyped in 734 males from different geographical regions inhabited by the contemporary Armenian population. The analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) showed that 48.9% of total STR genetic variation was explained by the differences between the haplogroups isolated based on biallelic polymorphism, whereas only 1.3% of genetic variation could be attributed to the differences between the geographic groups.

MEFV mutations and phenotype-genotype correlations in North African Jews and Armenians with familial Mediterranean fever.

BACKGROUND: Familial Mediterranean fever is a genetic disease in which some characteristic gene mutations have been found. OBJECTIVES: To analyze the phenotype-genotype correlations in North African Jews and Armenians with FMF. METHODS: We studied MEFV gene mutations and phenotype-genotype correlations in North African Jews and Armenians with Familial Mediterranean Fever living in France. RESULTS: M694V mutation was the most common mutation in Jews and in Armenians. Patients with M680I homozygosity or M680I/M694V compound heterozygosity had a phenotype as severe as patients with M694V homozygosity. CONCLUSIONS: This study characterizes the phenotype-genotype in specific ethnic groups of patients with FMF.

[New heptaene antibiotic, flavomycin, formed by Act. flavus var. geptinicus var. nov].

An actinomycetous culture LIA-0734 was isolated from a soil sample. By its morphologo-cultural properties it was close to Act. flavus and differed from the latter in the sporophores, colour of the substrate mycelium on synthetic media amd markedly pronounced antagonism with respect to yeasts and yeast-like fungi. The culture was classified as Act. flavus var. geptinicus var. nov. The actinomycete produced new aromatic heptaens: flavomycins A and B. Their physico-chemical and biological characteristics and singularity are presented.

[Changes in psychophysiological variables in students during examinations].

Current psychological tests and classic methods for recording and calculating autonomic correlates were used to study changes in students' psychophysiological indices during examinations. During this period, the students were found to develop emotional stress characterized by a complex of psychophysiological and autonomic changes. The nature and direction of the latter were determined by the individual and typological properties the examinees, by the significance of the emotional and stress situation of the autonomic nervous system and its responsiveness.
