[Larvae of barnacles (Cirripedia: Thoracica) in the White sea plankton].

The barnacle fauna in the White Sea is briefly described. The morphology of barnacle larvae in this water body is comparatively analyzed. The characters important for the larvae identification are given particular attention. A classification key was developed for the nauplius and cyprid larvae of barnacles in the White Sea.

[Plankton from the Riva Trigoso Bay(Ligurian Sea): presence of various trace elements].

Between March and June 1989 zooplankton and sea-water samples were taken in three different areas of Riva Trigoso Bay (eastern Ligurian Sea) every two weeks. The analysis of eight trace elements (Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni, V, Zn) was conducted by means of a graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometer (GFAAS). Biological material values resulted to be limited and quite homogeneous in all metal species thus with no apparent influence from sampling area or time. Observed concentrations (ng/g dry weight) ranged between 12 and 45 for Cd, 52 and 117 for Co, 30 and 71 for Cr, 428 and 1063 for Cu, 730 and 1440 for Fe, 265 and 512 for Ni, 361 and 510 for V, and 1403 and 2499 for Zn. Sea-water values confirmed the results of biological material thus testifying a particularly interesting environmental condition due to low contamination level detected in this part of the coast.

[Pollution in Lake Leman. Evidence for the accumulation of tin in crustacean plankton: first results obtained by X ray spectrography].

Zooplankton was collected monthly from Leman Lake, from November 1976 to April 1977. Six of the most representative species of freshwater zooplankton were analyzed: Bosmina sp, Daphnia longispina, Bythotrephes longimanus, Leptodora kindtii, Eudiaptomus gracilis and Cyclops prealpinus. All of the samples were shown to accumulate tin in their different organs and tissues where high values were generally found. The consequences of concentration of this toxic element for aquatic food chains are discussed.
