[The effect of erythromycin on immunity in immunodeficiency].
The effect of 12.5 and 25 mg/kg doses of erythromycin on the immunity of intact mice and in cyclophosphan- and azathioprine-induced immunodeficiency was studied. Erythromycin has no effect on the number of antibody-forming cells in the spleen of intact and immunocompromised with cyclophosphan animals. It increases their number against the background of azathioprine. Immunosuppression may change the character of the effect of erythromycin on delayed hypersensitivity. Erythromycin stimulates phagocyte activity in intact animals and in immunosuppression.
[The protective activity of anti-Proteus blood preparations].
Human blood anti-Proteus preparation activity has been studied on the model of Proteus etiology sepsis in white not pedigree mice. It has been found out that anti-Proteus plasma and anti-Proteus immunoglobulin with antibody titre 1:80 possess marked therapeutic properties. The obtained results of the experimental studies are the grounds for clinical studies carrying out with the use of blood anti-Proteus preparations in combined therapy of the patients with diseases of Proteus etiology.

[Aminoglycoside antibiotics from clinical viewpoint].
Indications, side effects, dosage and several pharmacokinetic properties of gentamicin, tobramycin, sisomicin, kanamycin, amikacin, and streptomycin are delt with in the first part. Hereafter, some aspects are briefly mentioned concerning combinations of antibiotics with aminoglycosides, as well as indications for the evaluation and analysis of the aminoglycoside concentration in the serum.
Evaluation of the usefulness of nitroblue tetrazolium reduction test (NBT test) for detection of bacterial infection in cancer patients.
False positivity of the NBT test in neoplastic diseases described by some authose may be a limitation in the use of the test for infection screening in cancer patients. For explaining this problem studies were performed in a group of 30 patients with various untreated malignancies without infection and in 20 of these with bacteriologically confirmed infections. The obtained results were compared with those in groups of normal persons without and with infection. Slightly modified Park method for spontaneous and stimulated NBT test was used. No significant differences between patients of both groups without infection were found. The increase in positivity of the test in presence of infection was lower in cancer patients than in normal subjects, however, it was non-significant. We did not observe any false-positive results in our patients, though one case of false negativity in myeloma is described separately. It is concluded that neoplastic disease does not cause, as such positivity of the NBT test. Because of similar response of NBT test to presence of infection, the NBT test is recognized as very useful for infection screening in cancer patients similarly as in normal persons.

[Antimicrobial, echinococcidial and immunostimulating properties of the drug Cheblin-SK-1].
The antimicrobial properties of the drug Cheblin-CK-1 (CCK-1) were determined in mice intraabdominally inoculated with Proteus mirabilis-4691 in a dose of 140-200 million daily cultured microbial bodies. Its comparison agent was ampicillin. CCK-1 was found to act as an antibiotic similar to ampicillin in its effects. The antimicrobial activity of CCK-1 against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli isolated from the contents of echinococcal cysts from patients operated on was also established. Its echinococcidial activity was found in experiments on the cotton rats and piglets inocculated with echinococci. CCK-1 was also tested on volunteers. Before surgery, 186 patients with echinococcosis took the drug and 26 patients with the same disease did not and they served as controls. At first the drug suppressed the growth of parasitic larvocysts with destruction and death of 85-95% of germinal elements of larvocysts and then killed parasites. In patients receiving a complete course of its therapy, protein and amino acid metabolisms restored, followed by immunity recovery.
[Specific immune preparations for the prevention and treatment of suppurative-inflammatory diseases of Proteus etiology (a review of the literature)].
Literature data are analyzed on the possibility of designing vaccines Proteus agents for obtaining specific blood agents. Perspective are designs directed to investigation of the raw material base for obtaining allogenous anti-Proteus blood agents.
