[Marine resources and drugs: fishing for molecules].

Biodiversity on the Earth is mainly made up of the huge number of existing marine organisms. Marine animals and plants elaborate a great panel of chemicals, many of them exhibiting strong biological activities. So, the seas enable human kingdom to obtain a large number of active products of medicinal interest. This paper deal with the various steps since the collection of the marine samples up to the marketing of the new molecules. Recent drugs from the seas and the main scientific or industrial partners concerned are also introduced.

[Pharmacognostical identification of antelope horn(Cornu Saigae Tataricae) and its adulterants].

OBJECTIVE: To provide appropriate information and scientific basis for identifying antelope horn (Saiga tatarica) contained in traditional Chinese patent medicines, and formulate relevant quality criteria through experiments. METHOD: Conducting comparative identification of macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of antelope horn(Saige tatarica) and its adulterants (Procapra gutturosa, Pantholops hodgsoni, Ovis ammon and Capra hircus) and giving a comparative table and an indented key to the main characteristics. RESULT AND CONCLUSION: There are remarkable differences between the authentic product and adulterants in both macroscopic and microscopic characteristics.

[Microscopic identification of Herba Dianthi grown in Shandong].

The medicinal materials of four species and two varieties of Herba Dianthi grown in Shandong were identified. The result shows that they are identified easily and accurately according to the outer properties, and they are apparently divided into the Shizhu group, the Qumai group and the Dianthus shandongensis on the basis of their morphological and structural characteristics of the stem and leaf, but they have not obvious distinction among the species of every group.
