Postural equilibrium: functional system and its stabilization by means of osteoreflexotherapy.

Our investigations have confirmed that the osteoreceptive sensory system participates in the polysensoric regulation of animal and human posture. Experiments with animals have demonstrated that the irritation of osteoreceptors by electric pulses leads to osteoreceptive response potentials of the same parts of the brain (Deiter's nuclei, cerebellum, caudate nucleus, cortical motor centre etc.) which participate in the regulation of animal and human posture and other motion acts. Close functional relations have been established between the skin, bone, vestibular and muscle sensory systems in the brain structures where the osteoreceptive excitation converges. The studies of osteoreceptive sensory system have served as a theoretical base for new techniques of posture stabilization. These are based on osteoreceptive irritations caused by electrical pulses or by intraosseal pressure increase at injections of the physiological solution. It has been found that each bone has its own specific role in posture regulation. In all cases of bone irritation the posture stabilization of various degrees has been confirmed. However, it has been demonstrated that the most effective results have been obtained by affecting the processus spinosus of seventh cervical vertebra and the lower extermity bones, especially those of tibiae and calcaneus.

[The use of acupuncture reflex therapy in the combined treatment of osteoarthrosis patients].

As many as 40 patients with osteoarthrosis of the hip and knee joints were followed up. Of these, 20 subjects received non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs together with intraarticular administration of glucocorticosteroids and inhibitors of proteases. The other 20 patients were exposed, apart from the above measures, to acupuncture treatments. Indicators of articular pains and tenderness of joints in palpation got significantly lower by the end of the course of treatment in those patients having received, in addition to drugs, acupuncture treatments.

[Experience of very early Vojta therapy in two infants with severe perinatal hypoxic encephalopathy].

We present two case reports with severe hypoxic encephalopathy at birth. Studies carried out in the NICU included cranial ultrasonography, CT, and MRI. Due to abnormalities found by the latter two they were referred to our center at the age of two months and one month, and then an early Vojta therapy commenced. Changes were monitored periodically by assessing their spontaneous movements, postural reactions and neurological manifestations. The first case presented with ventricular hemorrhage and was diagnosed as having severe CCD (central coordination disturbance) with the risk of athetotic type cerebral palsy. The second case presented with severe low density in the frontal and temporo-parietal white matter and was diagnosed as having moderate CCD with the risk of mental retardation or brain atrophy. Although their status fluctuated temporarily, the two infants didn't show any paresis or mental retardation. Recently the studies on mechanisms of brain plasticity have advanced. The findings of our experience might suggest that the plasticity of an immature brain could be enhanced by the very early Vojta therapy. We propose that a therapeutic intervention should commence early before clinical symptoms become evident.

[Anesthesiologist and chronic pain].

Effective therapy of chronic frequently recurring pain is a complex important problem from practical medical, social, and economic viewpoints. Organization of specialized "pain clinics" and pain control centers is discussed. These institutions will take care of patients with chronic pain syndromes. The role of anesthesiologists and reanimatologists at such clinics is analyzed. Experience gained at department of therapy of painful syndromes at the Russian Center of Surgery of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and the Integrative Medicine Center attached to it is reviewed. The authors offer recommendations on the use of traditional and nontraditional methods of pain relief. New highly effective integrative diagnostic methods (computer pulsometry) and therapies (resonance electropuncture analgesia and therapy) are used in various pain syndromes, including chronic frequently relapsing, which are usually resistant to common methods. Integrative methods of clinical reflex therapy create conditions for replacing traumatic surgical and radiological methods used in the treatment of critically ill patients by methods of integrative medicine.

[Foot reflex therapy and its clinical applications].

In order to increase the use of reflex therapy applications in daily clinical situations, the author makes an in depth analysis of the foundations of podalic reflex-therapy, based on the studies carried out by Michalsen, Maitland, Koblanck or Head, among others. Then the author writes about the reflex-therapy technique, explaining how the basic explorations as well as both the exploratory and therapeutic manipulations should be carried out. The author also exposes the effects of reflex-therapy treatment and its application in oncological pathologies, in patients in critical condition, in kidney pathologies, in patients undergoing surgery or in gynecology.

[Aspects of diagnosis and treatment of the facial nerve neuropathy].

As many as 86 patients with neuropathy of the facial nerve complicated by development of postneuritic muscular contractures were examined. Based on the clinical-and-neurophysiological investigation, findings from rheoencephalography, electroencephalography, echoencephaloscopy, electrodiagnosis of the facial nerve, clinical variants of the facial nerve function return to normal were defined together with causes of development of muscular contractures. Efficiency is shown of use of acupuncture and magnetotherapy combined in treatment of the above trouble.

[Use of biofeedback in combined treatment of low spine pain].

One hundred and six patients with dorsalgia of lumbar-sacral spine have been examined and treated. The developed and tested optimal methodology for using biofeedback, reflex therapy and manual therapy in a combined treatment of patients of different age in acute and chronic stages of the disease raised treatment efficacy. Combined treatment, including biofeedback, manual therapy, acupuncture of patients with dorsalgia, provides rapid arrest of pain syndrome, reduction of high tonicity of paravertebral muscles, motion volume increasing in lumbar spine region. Biofeedback allows patients to self-regulate muscle tone, therefore prevent further possible exacerbations.
