[Population distribution in Algeria: inertia and change].

"This study is an attempt to measure the meaning of the inter-regional movements of population in Algeria during a long period of time (1897-1977). As in the whole of the Mediterranean countries, these movements have resulted in rebalancing the differences in density between mountains and plains. Nevertheless, as a result of demographic growth, the population in the mountains is much denser than it was in 1897. And the populations moving from the mountains have not settled equally in the different types of plains: coastal plains, and amongst them chiefly Algiers, received most of it." (summary in ENG, GER)

The effect of selected causes of death on the expectation of life at birth.

"This paper is an attempt to construct cause-deleted life tables [for Iraq]. Certain causes of death were selected to be deleted depending on the outcomes of a sample of 20,947 death certificates which represent 1 out of each 7 registered death events.... The paper reveals that the expectation of life is considerably affected by the hypothetical absence of these causes which leads to the importance of carrying out profound health studies concerning these selected causes of death." "In this article, the author analyzes the migration flows between Spain and [Morocco] within the most general context of relations between European Union (EU) and the Maghrebian countries. Since the beginning of the eighties the migration flows toward and from Spain changed [dramatically], so... Spanish society has shifted toward an inmigration country. [The author analyzes] where such inmigrants come from and their motivations to choose Spain [as a] destination. The results of a survey financed partly by the EU...[for] institutions related directly with the migration problem from [Morocco] to Spain are the base of the information included in this article."
