Esthetic evaluation and treatment of the maxillary anterior--a case report.

Achieving an optimal esthetic result can be very challenging. As in other dental disciplines, attention to detail must be followed at all stages, starting with thorough diagnosis and treatment planning. Better understanding and fewer potential problems result when dentists communicate with patients by educating them about their treatment options and keeping them involved. In this case, decisions regarding orthodontics and periodontics were made easily because of a complete understanding between the patient and dentist. Informing patients of the advantages and disadvantages of various treatment options allows them to make more informed decisions.

Direct applications of a nanocomposite resin system: Part 2--Procedures for anterior restorations.

Nanocomposite resins allow clinicians to create restorations with improved biocompatibility function, and aesthetics. By ensuring that the patient's condition is clearly and thoroughly evaluated preoperatively, the clinician can develope natural, harmonious integration of the restorative material with the patient's natural tooth structures. The critical information captured during the initial visit can also be used to ensure development of natural contours, light refraction, and characterization . This article describes two anterior applications of a contemporary restorative material for optimal results.

A delayed subopaquing technique for treatment of stained dentition: clinical protocol.

Teeth with severe tetracycline staining can present a restorative challenge to the clinician. While a variety of options facilitate predictable aesthetic treatment of patients with such dentition, they often require significant tooth reduction in order to provide the dentist and the laboratory technician with adequate space for the restorative material to conceal the discoloration. This presentation outlines an alternative to this treatment that uses resin cement to mask the discolorations prior to the cementation of the porcelain laminate veneers.

Achieving quality esthetic dentistry and integrated comprehensive care with new generation techniques and materials.

BACKGROUND: Prosthodontics is the dental specialty responsible for diagnosis, rehabilitation and maintenance of patients with complex clinical conditions involving missing or deficient teeth and/or craniofacial tissues. The essence of the specialty is expert treatment planning. OVERVIEW/LITERATURE REVIEWED: In recent years, new approaches and technology have been introduced as a result of research performed in universities and by industry. The field of prosthodontics continues to evolve owing to a better understanding of the biology of the oral cavity and the introduction of new techniques and improved biomaterials. Improvements in periodontal and oral surgical techniques, implant procedures and materials, esthetic restorative materials, and jaw tracking recorders and articulators have led to enhanced functional and esthetic oral and maxillofacial prostheses. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: The complexities of today's technical and clinical procedures and the higher expectations for more esthetically pleasing dentistry by the general patient population have placed a premium on teamwork involving general dentists, specialists and dental technicians.

Brightness (value) sequence for the Vita Lumin Classic shade guide reassessed.

The purpose of this study was to locate the 16 shade tabs from the Vita Lumin 'Classic' shade guide within the quantitative Luminosity, R, G and B scales (0-255 scales) using Photoshop software. A new value order arranged according to the Photoshop scale demonstrated a more linear relationship between the 16 shade tabs than the order given by the manufacturer. A Brightness Index representing the percentage difference in value between pairs of reordered shade tabs is suggested as a more realistic determinant of change in shade tab value.
