The effect of nonspecific stimulants of different nature on the quantitative and qualitative composition of immune rosette-forming cells (RFC) and intensity of hypersensitivity of delayed type was studied and compared in BALB/c mice. The data obtained show that the living BCG vaccine, zymosan and levamisol largely affect T-cell immunity, while prodigiozan, dextran sulfate and tiloron the humoral immune response. Unlike the living vaccine, BCG exerts less stimulant effect on the immune response and increases mainly the level of B-RFC in the spleen of normal mice.
The inhibitory effect of several first transition metal ions on growth and pigment formation on three strains of Serratia marcescens was studied by the method of minimal inhibitory concentration. From this study it can be concluded that several of the first transition metal ions, namely Cr (II), Mn (II), Fe (II), Co (II) and Cu (II), with the inclusion of Zn (II), have a definite inhibitory effect on both growth (strains 08, WF, 933) and pigment formation (strain 08) of Serratia marcescens. Based on their electron configuration and their effectiveness, these first transition metal ions can be divided into two groups: Cr (II), Mn (II), Fe (II) and Co (II), Ni (II), Cu (II) and Zn (II). Several suggestions were made to explain their inhibitory actions.

The effect of Bac. prodigiosum polysaccharide named "prodigiosan" on DNA synthesis and the hepatocyte mitotic rate in the regenerating liver of male Wistar rats was studied. Being injected intraperitoneally in a dose of 50 microgram/rad per 24 h before partial hepatectomy prodigiosan markedly increased the mitotic rate and indices of labeled hepatocyte nuclei which reached the maximum values earlier than in control nonstimulated hepatectomized animals. It is suggested that the stimulatory effect of prodigiosan was due to the Kupffer's cells activation.
