The polarographic behavior of the reaction product of formaldehyde and phenyldrazine hydrochloride on the drop mercury electrode was investigated in a medium of 0.01 mol/L H3PO4 and sensitive second order polarographic reduction wave was obtained at -0.76 V (vs. SCE). The optimum conditions and disturbance of other co-existing substances were also studied, and were compared with those of national standard method. In the study, the detectable range, detection limit, recovery rate, relative standard deviation(RSD) of the improved method were 0.005-0.25 mg/L, 0.005 mg/L, 92.3%-104.6%, 1.1%-3.0% respectively, revealing the accordance with the national standard method.
In view of the widespread use of vitamin C several methods were developed for the determination of vitamin C in pharmaceutical preparation. Titrimetric and colorimetric methods commonly used to assay ascorbic acid. Unfortunately these methods have some failures regarding manipulative steps. Ascorbic acid oxidizes at DME and it can be a specific way with fewer steps in sample preparation in order to assay vitamin C. In this study a polarographic method was performed to determine ascorbic acid in several pharmaceutical dosage forms. The samples were prepared in oxalic acid solution and a standard addition method was performed during the experiments. The method has comparable precision compared with common method and it is even gave less error percent. Polarographic assay also is faster and easier to perform and could be used for routine determination.

In KOH, the Mg(II)-bromopyrogallol red (BPR) complex produced a very sensitive polarographic wave at -1.30 V. The wave height was linear with the concentration of Mg(II) in the range of 0.05 to 2 microg/mL. The detection limit was 0.01 microg/mL. The electrochemical behavior of Mg(II)-BPR was studied by electrochemical and spectrophotometric methods. Experiments proved that the polarographic wave of Mg(II)-BPR was due to the reduction of BPR in the Mg(II)-BPR complex. The method, which was sensitive, selective, and simple to perform, was used to determine magnesium in foods, and the results were consistent with those obtained by atomic absorption spectroscopy.

The polarographic method permitted to register changes in the protein higher structure at radiation doses of the order of tenths Gy. A technique is proposed and optimum conditions found for taking measurements in mammalian serum and plasma in vitro. It is suggested that the proposed technique, having been tested on experimental animals, might be used for an indirect diagnosis of radiation affection in human beings.
