Organ-specific expression pattern of the human growth hormone/placental lactogen gene-cluster in the testis.

In addition to testosterone, the essential paracrine factor for spermatogenesis, a number of potential auto/paracrine regulatory substances such as beta-endorphins, enkephalins, chorionic gonadotropin beta, growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) and insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) have been identified in the testis of various mammalian species. The latter findings prompted us to investigate a possible eutopic production of GH, placental lactogen (PL) and PRL in human testes. Specific expression of testicular GH/PL mRNA (n = 20) was shown by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) using a pair of primers designed to non-selectively amplify any transcript of the five GH/PL genes (GH-N, GH-V, PL-A, PL-B, PL-L). In contrast to the classical sites of production, the pituitary (exclusively GH-N transcripts) and the placenta (PL-A/B > 99%, GH-V < 1%), radioactive semiquantitative restriction enzyme analysis of the PCR-products revealed, that the testis has its own organ-specific pattern of GH/PL gene expression: PL-A/B > GH-V > or = PL-L = GH-N. All three organs express the single PRL gene, and testis and placenta show the alternative splice variant GH-V2. Immunological analyses by immunofluorometric assays for hPL-A/B, hGH-N and hPRL, demonstrated significant amounts of protein hormones in all testicular cytosolic homogenates (means: hPL 1.0 ng/g, hGH 5.1 ng/g and hPRL 58.7 ng/g tissue wet weight). Most noteworthy, hPL serum levels in an elderly age-matched healthy subjects (n = 18) were < 0.02 ng/ml. The concept of purely endocrine functions of placental and pituitary-derived GH/PL needs to be reassessed, since human testicular synthesis of these molecules suggest auto/paracrine functions in the male reproductive tract.

Selection for virulence and organ-specific metastasis of herpesvirus-transformed lymphoma cells.

The Marek's Disease virus-transformed, non-producer, lymphoma cell line, MDCC-RPI, was selected by sequential transplantation to produce a highly malignant variant, MDCC-ALI. This is evidenced gy an 18-fold decrease in LD50. The new cell line has an increased ability to form metastatic lesions in a distribution which mimics the natural disease. Further selections for organ-specific metastasis were undertaken with the isolation of two cell lines, MDCC-AL2, selected for liver metastasis, and MDCC-AL3, selected for ovary metastasis. In vivo studies show that the selection was unsuccessful in the case of the ovary but successful in the case of the liver. Two assays were developed, utilizing the chick embryo and intravenous injection of lymphoma variants. One measures liver-specific metastasis by the enumeration of tumor foci on the embryonic liver. The second, chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) focus formation, correlates with the virulence of the injected lymphoma cells. The liver-selected tumour variant cells form more liver foci than any other tumour variant cells. The genetic background of the embryo does not affect formation of liver foci. Resistance to CAM focus formation correlates with major histocompatibility complex associated resistance to MD.

[Organ specific application of drugs by means of cellular capsule systems (author's transl)].

It is suggested to use living cells (red blood cells, lymphocytes and leucocytes) as drug delivery systems for temporal and spatial drug administration in human therapeutics and diagnosis. The effectiveness of drug loaded cells is demonstrated for the drug methotrexate which is used in cancer treatment. Red blood cells are loaded with methotrexate using the dielectric breakdown technique. Dielectric breakdown leads to a transient increase of permeability of the cell membrane. Red blood cells loaded with tritium-labelled methotrexate were injected into mice and the activity level was measured in several organs as a function of time. It is shown that with this drug delivery system more than 50% of the drug (after 10 min) can be accumulated in the liver and that a high activity level can be sustained in this or gan for more than 3 hours. On the other hand, administration of this drug by injecting solutions in the usual manner leads only to an 25% accumulation of methotrexate (after 10 min) in the liver. The drug is excreted completely after 1 to 2 hours. It is proposed to load red blood cells simultaneously with para- or ferromagnetic substances to obtain organ-specificity for any selected site of the body.

Autoantibody "subspecificity" in type 1 diabetes: risk for organ-specific autoimmunity clusters in distinct groups.

OBJECTIVE: Autoimmune thyroid disease (AIT), celiac disease, and Addison's disease are characterized by the presence of autoantibodies: thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibody (TGAb) in AIT, tissue transglutaminase antibody (TTGAb) in celiac disease, and 21-hydroxylase antibody (21-OHAb) in Addison's disease. The objective of this study was to define the prevalence of these autoantibodies and clinical disease in a population with type 1 diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: We screened 814 individuals with type 1 diabetes for TPOAb, TGAb, TTGAb, and 21-OHAb. Clinical disease was defined by chart review. Factors related to the presence of autoimmunity and clinical disease including age at onset of type 1 diabetes, duration of diabetes, age at screening, sex, and the presence of autoantibodies were reviewed. RESULTS: The most common autoantibodies expressed were TPOAb and/or TGAb (29%), followed by TTGAb (10.1%) and 21-OHAb (1.6%). Specific HLA DR/DQ genotypes were associated with the highest risk for expression of 21-OHAb (DRB1*0404-DQ8, DR3-DQ2) and TTGAb (DR3-DQ2- DR3-DQ2). The expression of thyroid autoantibodies was related to 21-OHAb but not to TTGAb. The presence of autoantibodies was associated with and predictive of disease. CONCLUSIONS: In this large cohort of individuals with type 1 diabetes, the expression of organ-specific autoantibodies was very high. The grouping of autoantibody expression suggests common factors contributing to the clustering.

Organ-specific activity of the 5' regulatory region of the glutamine synthetase gene in developing mice.

Glutamine synthetase (GS) converts ammonia and glutamate into glutamine. We assessed the activity of the 5' regulatory region of the GS gene in developing transgenic mice carrying the chloramphenicol acetyltransferase (CAT) gene under the control of 3150 bp of the upstream sequence of the rat GS gene to obtain insight into the spatiotemporal regulation of its pattern of expression. To determine the organ-specific activity of the 5' regulatory region CAT and GS mRNA expression were compared by ribonuclease-protection and semi-quantitative in situ hybridization analyses. Three patterns were observed: the 5' region is active and involved in the regulation of GS expression throughout development (pericentral hepatocytes, intestines and epididymis); the 5' region shows no activity at any of the ages investigated (periportal hepatocytes and white adipose tissue); and the activity of the 5' region becomes repressed during development (stomach, muscle, brown adipose tissue, kidney, lung and testis). In the second group, an additional element must be responsible for the activation of GS expression. The last group included organs in which the 5' regulatory region is active, but not in the cells that express GS. In these organs, the activity of the 5' regulatory region must be repressed by other regulatory regions of the GS gene that are missing from the transgenic construct. These findings indicate that in addition to the 5' regulatory region, at least two unidentified elements are involved in the spatiotemporal pattern of expression of GS.

Organ-specific genotoxicity of the potent rodent colon carcinogen 1,2-dimethylhydrazine and three hydrazine derivatives: difference between intraperitoneal and oral administration.

We used a modification of the alkaline single cell gel electrophoresis (SCG) (Comet) assay to test the in vivo genotoxicity of four hydrazine derivatives--1,2-dimethylhydrazine (SDMH), 1,1-dimethylhydrazine (UDMH), hydrazine (HZ), and procarbazine (PCZ)--in mouse liver, lung, kidney, brain, and bone marrow, and in the mucosa of stomach, colon, and bladder. Mice were sacrificed 3 and 24 h after intra-peritoneal (i.p.) and oral (p.o.) administration. SDMH at 20 mg/kg i.p. yielded statistically significant DNA damage in all tested organs except for lung. In the gastrointestinal tract, SDMH was genotoxic in the stomach and the colon after i.p. treatment but only in the colon after 20 and 30 mg/kg p.o. treatment. UDMH at 50 mg/kg i.p. yielded DNA damage in the liver and lung at 3 h. PCZ at 200 mg/kg i.p. caused DNA damage in the liver, kidney, lung, brain, and bone marrow. UDMH and PCZ were positive in the stomach and colon p.o. but not by i.p. treatment. HZ at 100 mg/kg yielded DNA damage in the stomach, liver, and lung when given i.p. and in the brain when p.o. Thus, the administration route is important when evaluating organ-specific genotoxicity in multiple organs.

Organ-specific, qualitative changes in the phospholipid composition of rats after chronic administration of the antidepressant drug desipramine.

Rats were chronically treated with daily i.p. injections of 10 mg/kg desipramine for 21 days. A 30% decrease in the number of beta-adrenoceptors was observed in brain. A receptor desensitization of similar extent was noted in submaxillary glands and lung. No change in beta-adrenoceptor number was present in heart. Total phospholipid contents were not altered in these organs after chronic drug treatment. However, organ-specific changes were found in the phospholipid composition of submaxillary glands, lung and liver but not in whole brain and heart. The changes were variable but an increase in phosphatidylinositol and decreases in phosphatidylethanolamine and sphingomyelin were consistent. Possible alterations in the phospholipid composition of the brain might have been masked by the large and stable pool of myelin phospholipids. A casual relationship between changes in the phospholipid composition and beta-adrenoceptor desensitization is discussed.

Organ-specific antibodies against ovary in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

We studied whether patients with systemic lupus erythematosus can have organ-specific antibodies directed against ovaries. With a recently developed enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay system that uses both a soluble and an extractable corpus luteum antigen fraction, we detected both IgG and IgM antibodies in the sera of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (16 of 19, 84%). The highest levels of IgG antibodies were seen when the extractable organ fraction (ST80) was used as the antigen.

Molecular characterization and functional regulation of a novel rat liver-specific organic anion transporter rlst-1.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Recently, we isolated a new complementary DNA (cDNA) encoding human liver-specific organic anion transporter (LST-1), representing the multispecificity of human liver. The aim of this study was to isolate a rat counterpart of human LST-1 and examine the expression regulation of its messenger RNA (mRNA) to clarify the molecular basis of cholestasis. METHODS: A rat liver cDNA library was screened with human LST-1 cDNA as a probe. Xenopus oocyte expression system was used for functional analysis. Northern blot analyses were performed using the isolated cDNA (termed rlst-1). The bile duct ligation model and the cecum ligation and puncture model were used for expression analyses. RESULTS: rlst-1 encodes 652 amino acids, predicting at least 11 transmembrane regions. The overall homology with human LST-1 was 60.2%, which is the highest among all known organic anion transporters. rlst-1 also belongs to the same new gene family as human LST-1, located between the organic anion transporter family and the prostaglandin transporter. rlst-1 preferably transports taurocholate (K(m), 9.45 micromol/L) in an Na(+)-independent manner. The rlst-1 mRNA is exclusively expressed in the liver. In both the bile duct ligation model and the cecum ligation and puncture model, mRNA expression levels of rlst-1 were down-regulated. CONCLUSIONS: rlst-1 is a counterpart of human LST-1 and is one of the important transporters in rat liver for the clearance of bile acid. The expression of rlst-1 may be under feedback regulation of cholestasis by biliary obstruction and/or sepsis.

Organization specific predictors of job satisfaction: findings from a Canadian multi-site quality of work life cross-sectional survey.

BACKGROUND: Organizational features can affect how staff view their quality of work life. Determining staff perceptions about quality of work life is an important consideration for employers interested in improving employee job satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to identify organization specific predictors of job satisfaction within a health care system that consisted of six independent health care organizations. METHODS: 5,486 full, part and causal time (non-physician) staff on active payroll within six organizations (2 community hospitals, 1 community hospital/long-term care facility, 1 long-term care facility, 1 tertiary care/community health centre, and 1 visiting nursing agency) located in five communities in Central West Ontario, Canada were asked to complete a 65-item quality of work life survey. The self-administered questionnaires collected staff perceptions of: co-worker and supervisor support; teamwork and communication; job demands and decision authority; organization characteristics; patient/resident care; compensation and benefits; staff training and development; and impressions of the organization. Socio-demographic data were also collected. RESULTS: Depending on the organization, between 15 and 30 (of the 40 potential predictor) variables were found to be statistically associated with job satisfaction (univariate analyses). Logistic regression analyses identified the best predictors of job satisfaction and these are presented for each of the six organizations and for all organizations combined. CONCLUSIONS: The findings indicate that job satisfaction is a multidimensional construct and although there appear to be some commonalities across organizations, some predictors of job satisfaction appear to be organization and context specific.

Interleukin-7 (IL-7) knockout mice. Implications for lymphopoiesis and organ-specific immunity.

Interleukin-7 (IL-7) is produced by both immune and non-immune cells including stromal cell lines, B-cells, monocytes/macrophages, follicular dendritic cells, keratinocytes, and gut epithelial cells. The development of IL-7 knockout mice aided to elucidate the role of this multifaceted cytokine in lymphopoiesis. Additionally, IL-7 gene-deleted mice may represent an excellent model in order to define the functional role of locally secreted IL-7 in organ-specific immunity and in anti-microbial responses as well. For instance, analysis of IL-7 gene-deleted mice revealed reduced numbers of total T-lymphocytes with preservation of the CD4/CD8 ratio and increased ratio of alpha beta + T-cells compared to gamma delta + T-cells. Transition of pro-T-cells to pre-T-cells was impaired. Cell marker analysis of thymocytes in IL-7 -/- mice suggested that IL-7 may induce expression of as yet unidentified cytokine receptors, and that IL-7 may also be critically involved in T-cell differentiation. However, there are clear differences in the requirements of alpha beta or gamma delta T-cells for IL-7. In general, IL-7 appears to serve as the major growth and differentiation factor for gamma delta T-cells. IL-7 -/- mice are characterized by a block of maturation of V gamma 3low, CD24+ T-cells to V gamma 3high, CD24low T-cells. Thus, IL-7 does not only represent a 'maintenance factor', but rather a cytokine required for successful thymic and extrathymic development and maturation of gamma delta T-cells. gamma delta + intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes (iIEL) are absent in IL-7 -/- animals. In contrast, alpha beta + iIEL can be detected in IL-7 gene-deleted animals, but not in gamma c, or in JAK-3 deficient mice suggesting that alternative cytokines may be involved in development of iIEL alpha beta + T-cells, but not necessarily for gamma delta T-cells. To this end, IL-7 has predominantly been studied in the context of B- and T-cell development. With the availability of IL-7 gene-deleted mice, the paracrine effects of IL-7, which may be secreted in vivo by non-immune cells including keratinocytes or gut epithelial cells, can now be critically examined.

Organ-specific regulation of pro-inflammatory molecules in heart, lung, and kidney following brain death.

BACKGROUND: Nonspecific inflammatory events following brain death may increase the intensity of the immunological host response. The present study investigated the course of pro-inflammatory molecules in heart, lung, kidney, and plasma after brain death induction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Brain death was induced in five pigs by inflation of an intracranial Foley catheter and five pigs were sham-operated as controls. Each experiment was terminated 6 h after brain death/sham operation and the organs were harvested. We measured the mRNA and protein levels for TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, and IL-6 in heart, lung, kidney, and plasma. Additionally, the mRNA expression for IL-6R, ICAM-1, MCP-1, and TGF-beta was determined in each organ. RESULTS: After 6 h, the plasma cytokine levels were higher in the brain-dead animals than in the sham-operated. In heart, lung, and kidney there was an increase in IL-6 and IL-1beta following brain death, while TNF-alpha was up-regulated in lung only (P < 0.05). MCP-1 and TGF-beta were significantly higher in heart and lung and IL-6R increased in heart after brain death (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Brain death was associated with non-uniform cytokine expression patterns in the investigated organs. These expression patterns may cause variable pro-inflammatory priming resulting in different degrees of damage and explain the organ-specific variation in outcomes after transplantations.

Acquired haemophilia in association with organ-specific autoimmune disease.

A 72-year-old woman presented with multiple sites of soft tissue bleeding and a left ulnar neuropathy due to a compartment syndrome. There were also clinical signs of hypothyroidism. Factor VIII:C (FVIII) levels were 6% and a FVIII inhibitor with a titre of 9 Bethesda units was detected. She had biochemical evidence of hypothyroidism and high titres of antithyroid antibodies were detected. Two episodes of life- or limb-threatening haemorrhage were successfully treated with FEIBA. The inhibitor disappeared following 2 months of immunosuppression with oral cyclophosphamide and corticosteroids. She then developed autoimmune haemolytic anaemia, which responded to further immunosuppression with oral prednisolone. The association between acquired haemophilia and systemic autoimmune disorders such as systemic lupus erythematosis is well recognized, but our description of an association with organ-specific autoimmunity is more unusual.

Responses of European eel (Anguilla anguilla L.) circulating phagocytes to an in situ closed pulp mill effluent exposure and its association with organ-specific peroxidative damage.

The effect of bleached kraft pulp mill effluent (BKPME) persistent compounds on phagocyte activities and its organ-specific influence in gill, kidney and liver was studied in European eel (Anguilla anguilla L.). Eels were caged and plunged at 3 different sites-50 m (site 1), 100 m (site 2) and 2,000 m (site 3) away from the end of the closed BKPME discharging channel for 8 and 48 h. Gill, head kidney and peritoneum phagocytes oxidative burst activity (OBA) was measured by the nitroblue tetrazolium reduction assay whereas lipid peroxidation (LPO) in eel gill, kidney and liver was measured by thiobarbituric acid reaction. A significant gill OBA induction was found at 8h on site 2, and on sites 1, 2 and 3 at 48 h exposure. However, in head kidney and peritoneal exudate phagocytes, OBA induction was significant only at sites 2 and 3 after 48 h exposure. In those particular sites, a significant increase in gill, kidney and liver LPO was measured that is assumed to result from OBA induction. Considering OBA and LPO, gill is the most affected tissue compared to kidney and liver. Gill vulnerability towards peroxidative damage was demonstrated at 8h on site 2 and at 48 h on sites 1, 2 and 3, whereas in kidney was observed at sites 2 and 3 only at 48 h. Liver LPO increased at site 2 only after 48 h exposure. Our results demonstrate that the OBA activation pattern in gill and kidney is associated with the induced peroxidative damage extent in those organ, together with water pollution the exposure route, resulting from previous BKPME effluent sediment contamination which may affect the activation pattern of circulating fish phagocytes.

A cluster of five cell wall-associated receptor kinase genes, Wak1-5, are expressed in specific organs of Arabidopsis.

WAK1 (wall-associated kinase 1) is a cytoplasmic serine/threonine kinase that spans the plasma membrane and extends into the extracellular region to bind tightly to the cell wall. The Wak1 gene was mapped and found to lie in a tight cluster of five highly similar genes (Wak1-5) within a 30 kb region. All of the Wak genes encode a cytoplasmic serine/threonine protein kinase, a transmembrane domain, and an extracytoplasmic region with several epidermal growth factor (EGF) repeats. The extracellular regions also contain limited amino acid identities to the tenascin superfamily, collagen, or the neurexins. RNA blot analysis with gene-specific probes revealed that Wak1, Wak3 and Wak5 are expressed primarily in leaves and stems of Arabidopsis. Wak4 mRNA is only detected in siliques, while Wak2 mRNA is found in high levels in leaves and stems, and in lower levels in flowers and siliques. A trace amount of Wak2 can also be detected in roots. Wak1 is induced by pathogen infection and salicylic acid or its analogue INA and is involved in the plant's response, and Wak2, Wak3 and Wak5 also can be greatly induced by salicylic acid or INA. The WAK proteins have the potential to serve as both linkers of the cell wall to the plasma membrane and as signaling molecules, and since Wak expression is organ-specific and the isoforms vary significantly in the cell wall associated domain this family of proteins may be involved in cell wall-plasma membrane interactions that direct fundamental processes in angiosperms.

Non-organ specific autoantibodies associated with chronic C virus hepatitis.

Recently antibodies to hepatitis C virus were detected in sera of chronic active hepatitis patients, with anti-smooth muscle autoantibodies or with anti-liver/kidney microsomal type 1 autoantibodies. As the latter were used to differentiate autoimmune chronic active hepatitis from chronic non-A, non-B virus hepatitis, it was mainly important to discover if autoantibodies were associated with chronic hepatitis C virus infection. The sera of 272 chronic hepatitis C patients were screened by indirect immunofluorescence for non-organ specific autoantibodies. Antinuclear antibodies and anti-smooth muscle autoantibodies were more frequent in chronic hepatitis C patients than in blood donors (n = 100). Anti-liver/kidney microsomal type 1 autoantibodies were not detected in the sera of the blood donors, in the 74 hepatitis B patients or in the 30 alcoholic hepatitis or cirrhotic patients' sera tested as controls. They were detected in 14 chronic hepatitis C patients. These antibodies were compared in immunodiffusion to anti-liver/kidney microsomal type 1 autoantibodies sera obtained from type-2 autoimmune chronic active hepatitis patients and an identity reaction was observed. Chronic hepatitis C patients without or with anti-liver/kidney microsomal type 1 autoantibodies, did not differ in age, sex ratio, transaminases and gammaglobulin level, risk factors for hepatitis C virus infection, association with other autoimmune diseases. These patients differed significantly from type-2 autoimmune chronic active hepatitis patients. We conclude that: (i) in some chronic hepatitis C patients the pattern and the titer of autoantibodies may create confusion with an autoimmune chronic active hepatitis; (ii) There is no serological evidence for a hepatitis C virus infection in true type-2 autoimmune chronic active hepatitis.

The isolation of colon cancer organ specific neoantigen by the use of the leukocyte adherence inhibition assay and monoclonal antibodies.

The LAI reactivity of a colon organ specific neoantigen (OSN) was recovered from the urine of advanced colon cancer patients. In this study three physico-chemical steps were employed; precipitation by 80% ammonium sulfate, ion exchange, and molecular sieve chromatography. Each isolate was tested for activity and specificity by the direct tube leukocyte adherence inhibition (LAI) assay employing leukocytes from colon and breast cancer patients. The OSN enriched isolate was then used to generate monoclonal antibodies (Mab). Hybridomas were screened by ELISA. One hybridoma designated Bac 18.1 reacted preferentially with colon OSN and not with the urine from normals or patients with breast cancer. Affinity purification of colon OSN was achieved and it was shown to consist of a single band in SDS-PAGE with an apparent molecular weight of 30,000. The eluted polypeptide was specifically reactive in ELISA as well as in the LAI assay.

2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) induces organ- specific differential gene expression in male Japanese medaka (Oryzias latipes).

2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) is a ubiquitous environmental contaminant with well-known adverse effects in fish. In this study, we initially exploited suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) as a screening tool to assess qualitative gene expression changes in whole brain, liver, and testis of adult male Japanese medaka (Oryzias latipes) exposed for 48 h to a single intraperitoneal-injected dose of TCDD (10 microg TCDD/kg body weight). Across these three organs, SSH identified a total of 335 unique genes. Each set of forward- and reverse-subtracted organ cDNA libraries consisted of a distinct gene list and corresponding distribution of biological processes, suggesting that transcript profiles of these libraries were highly organ-specific. Based on sequence match significance and frequencies within each set of organ libraries, genes hypothesized to be strongly responsive (42 total) within male medaka brain, liver, or testis were semi-quantitatively screened with replicate cDNA nylon membrane arrays. In addition, TCDD-treated male medaka were surveyed for gross histological analysis of brain, liver, and testis. In general, adverse histopathological changes were not observed in the brain, and glycogen depletion was observed only in the liver. However, significant histological changes occurred in the testis, and included disorganization of spermatogenesis at the testis periphery, disruption of the interstitium, Leydig cell swelling, and Sertoli cell vacuolation. Of the 42 genes screened by cDNA array analysis, cytochrome P450 1A (CYP1A) mRNA was the only transcript significantly higher in TCDD-exposed brain, whereas 12 transcripts (including CYP1A) were significantly higher in TCDD-exposed liver, and 34 transcripts were significantly lower in TCDD-exposed testis. Therefore, the degree of TCDD-induced alterations observed in each organ at a gross histological level corresponded well with the number and ontology of gene transcripts affected on the array. Based on real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), relative CYP1A (but not AHR1) transcript levels were confirmed to be significantly higher in TCDD-treated brain and liver. However, CYP1A was not significantly induced in TCDD-exposed testis, suggesting that gene expression and histopathological responses observed in the testis at 48 h may be CYP1A-independent. Based on these data, unique liver-specific and testis-specific mRNA-level targets in male medaka were identified as promising biomarkers of acute TCDD-induced toxicity.
