[reaction: see text] Attachment of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) to ruthenium porphyrin via a covalent etheric bond gives soluble polymer-supported ruthenium catalysts 3-5. These catalysts exhibit high reactivity and selectivity toward alkene epoxidation with 2,6-dichloropyridine N-oxide and alkene cyclopropanation with diazo compounds. The application of these catalysts in the synthesis of unstable organic compounds has been demonstrated.
N-(p-Toluenesulfonyl)-p-toluenesulfonimidamide reacts with iodosylbenzene to afford in situ a chiral iminoiodane. The latter gives, in the presence of a copper(I) catalyst, a nitrene that is very efficiently transferred under stoichiometric conditions to a variety of alkenes with diastereoselectivities up to 60%. [reaction: see text]
[reaction: see text] A comparative study shows that the isopropylsulfinyl group for which an enantiodivergent and highly diastereoselective approach is reported behaves better than the tert-butylsulfinyl and p-tolylsulfinyl groups, both in terms of reactivity and stereoselectivity in the Corey-Chaykovsky reaction of chiral sulfinylimines and the organocatalytic allylation of acyl hydrazones.
The ring opening of N-tosylaziridines with trimethylsilylated nucleophiles, catalyzed by N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine, led to the production of beta-functionalized sulfonamides in good to excellent yields with high regioselectivity. [reaction: see text]
[reaction: see text] Optically active cis-2-substituted vinylaziridines are synthesized by the reaction of N-tert-butylsulfinylimines with telluronium ylides with excellent diastereoselectivity in good to excellent yields.
[formula: see text] 2-Methylaziridine-2-phosphonates were prepared from enantiopure sulfinimines and were demonstrated to be versatile synthetic intermediates for the synthesis of novel alpha-disubstituted and alpha,beta-trisubstituted alpha-aminophosphonate derivatives. The first asymmetric synthesis of both enantiomers of alpha-methylphosphophenylalanine is described.

We report for the first time that after O-acylation the conjugate addition products of (S)-N-(alpha-methylbenzyl)hydroxylamine undergo an efficient diastereoselective 3-exo-tet ring-closure reaction affording 2- and 2,3-disubstituted-N-alkylaziridines in good to excellent yields.

The interaction of several biogenic amines and Compound A (2-(4-acetoxyphenyl)-2-chloro- N-methyl-ethylammonium chloride), an analogue of the active substance in a HPLC fraction isolated from the shrub, Salsola tuberculatiformis Botsch., with cytochrome P450c11 was investigated. Noradrenaline, octopamine and Compound A inhibited the type I DOC induced difference spectrum of P450c11 and elicited a type II difference spectrum when added alone. The Ks-values for noradrenaline, octopamine, and Compound A were 0.8 mM, 0.16 mM and 0.36 mM, respectively. Dopamine, adrenaline and synephrine did not interact with, or inhibit, P450c11. Further investigation of Compound A indicated that it is a mixed inhibitor of sheep P450c11 with a stronger competitive (Kic = 106-110 microM) than uncompetitive (Kiu = 667-737 microM) element, and that it inhibits the conversion of deoxycorticosterone to corticosterone by human 11beta-hydroxylase and aldosterone synthase with EC50 values of 97 microM and 190 microM, respectively, in fetal calf serum.
