The rare case of the metastasis cancer of mamma on the middle ear was described. The diagnostic difficulties, treatment and clinical course were also discussed.
We have described three cases of benign sweat gland adenoma in woman's breast defined in latin terminology as spiradenoma apo- et eccrinale mammae, causing many diagnostic difficulties both in clinical and histologic analysis.
A comparison was made between two groups, each consisting of 50 women who had undergone an exploratory incision of the mamma because of suspected cancer at least one year and not more than two years previously. The women in group A underwent an operation in clinic A in which a radial incision was performed in the skin immediately above the tumor (GB: tumour). In contrast to this group B in clinic B had the tumor removed via parariola incision independent of the location of the tumor. In clinic A the incision was closed by subcuticular suture using individual button stitches on the surface. In clinic B subcutaneous stitching was not used; after thorough blood-staunching procedures the skin was closed with intracutaneous atraumatic techniques. Both groups were subsequently examined and post-operative complications and the complaints of the patients were registered. In addition the cosmetic result of the operation was taken into consideration. The examinations show that the parariola incision is the ideal technique for almost all exploratory operations of the breast. Although the post-operative phase is accompanied by a slightly higher incidence of haematomas these rarely require further corrective surgical procedures if blood-staunching is efficient and Redon drainage techniques are used. Between 1 and 2 years after surgery the parariola approach shows definite advantages when compared with radial incision directly over the tumor. The scars are almost invisible, definitely cause fewer problems for the patient, and rarely spoil the appearance of the breast.
The critical attitude towards the additional chemotherapy of the mamma carcinoma is justified by the results of 453 patients submitted to post-operative irradiations. With the indication corresponding to their stade, 43 patients were treated by chemotherapy according to Ward. The remission rate was 70%.
It is reported about 234 patients suffering from postoperative complications after mamma surgery due to carcinoma. All patients were postoperatively treated with a combined telecobalt and x-ray radiation. The results show that serious complications as lymphoedema and periphery neurologic disturbances depend in a great extent on the technique of surgery, especially when the axilla is involved by the cut direction. Postoperative complications of breast cancer are increased only insignificantly by radiatio. Therefore it is suggested to reduce the frequence of radical surgery, and modified radical surgery of breast cancer, in favour of single mastectomy plus postoperative radiation.
The article reports on a case of marked unilateral hyperplasia of the mammae during pregnancy. Literature references show that this is a rare occurrence. The possible complications require an intensive control. Although malignant degeneration has not been reported, the authors believe that diagnostic clarification is mandatory.
Authors report on bone metastases by 8 female patients with mamma carcinoma rarely occurring according to the literature. By the first patient a metastasis to the zygomatic bone and to the maxilla, by a second to the corpus mandibuale, by a third to the ascending branch of mandibula was encountered. The fourth patient showed metastasis at the distal end of radius and in the carpal bones, the fifth in the midthird part of tibial diaphysis, the sixth in the I, and II, cuneiform bone, the seventh in the carpal and metacarpal, tarsal and metatarsal bones respectively, the eighth in the calcaneus. In all the above cases previously metastases to other bones (as spine, pelvis etc.) have been noted. This means that in course of the disease the metastases of "rare localisation" appear in a later period.
Deaths due to dehydration and starvation occurred in the early neonatal period in bonnet monkey (Macaca radiata) infants housed with their dams in an outdoor half-acre corral. Dams were found to have small, rudimentary papillae mammae of insufficient size to permit suckling. Both papillary and breast tissue of affected dams were histologically normal; the nipples differed macroscopically from those of normal females only in size. This abnormality accounted for half of the neonatal mortality experienced in this breeding colony over a 5-year period.

A considerable reduction of up to 75% at the protein level of the erbB2 gene product was observed using phosphorothioate antisense oligonucleotides directed against specific sequences of the erbB2 mRNA. Antisense oligonucleotides used were the 14-mer (translation start region) and the 17-mer (3' translated region) all-phosphorothioate oligonucleotides (S-ODNs). Sense or random sequences were used as a control. The greatest reduction at the erbB2 protein level was obtained after a 24h incubation with a single dose of 2 microM antisense S-ODN. The erbB2-mRNA-specific and the tyrosine kinase consensus antisense S-ODNs were comparably effective in inhibiting erbB2 expression. Addition of the transfection reagent DOTAP diminished the efficiency of erbB2 protein reduction by antisense S-ODNs after an incubation period of 24h but was more effective after 48h compared to the application of antisense S-ODNs alone.

Sonography has been established as an important adjunct to current diagnostic techniques for the assessment of mammary lymph nodes. Although this method is widely used, no reproducible standard procedure which is equally applicable to the examination of all relevant lymphatic groups has been developed to date. Healthy subjects (n = 50) were examined in an attempt at defining sonographic scanning levels for optimum visualization of anatomic reference landmarks. Images were acquired with a 7.5-MHz linear-array transducer. Anatomic cross-sections of the same level as imaged by sonography were used to identify important details. Unique structures close to the lymph nodes could be identified by sonography, it was not possible, however, to differentiate normal lymph nodes. The correct assessment of lymph drainage areas is therefore possible only if the sonographic level is clearly defined and if the examiner is familiar with the topographic relationships between the depicted structures. By presenting a reproducible examination technique as well as anatomic details, this study aims at avoiding false interpretations and increasing the efficacy of sonographic exploration. The authors believe that this simple and hardly time-consuming technique can contribute to a comprehensive evaluation of the lymph drainage areas of the breast.
