Census undercount and the undercount of the Black population.

"Despite the [U.S.] Census Bureau's great efforts in various accuracy-improvement and outreach programs, census undercount still persists.... This paper focuses on the undercount of the Black population and its impacts in the form of such biased statistics on Blacks as inflated proportions of Black female-headed households, deflated victimization rates of Black males, or crude death rates of Blacks. The paper concludes with suggestions on how to deal with the undercount problems."

What do you want from the 2001 census? Results of an ESRC/JISC survey of user views.

"The author describes the results of a survey of user views about the next Census of Population in the United Kingdom, to be held in 2001. Some 140 respondents reported their views, which included strong support for a question on income, endorsement of the new one number census methodology and support for postcode-based outputs. The author sets these views in the context of the Census Development Programme being carried out by the U.K. Census Offices and the proposals for outputs which are being discussed with the main census user sectors of central and local government, business, the Health Service, and the academic community."

[The development of demographic surveys and censuses in Indonesia].

"The development of statistical activities in Indonesia since the 1960s is outlined with special reference to demographic surveys and population censuses." The author notes the substantial improvements that have been made in the design, organization, and execution of censuses and surveys and expresses the hope that similar improvements can be made in the vital statistics system.
