[Value of ultrasound and sialography in diagnosis of chronic inflammatory diseases of the parotid salivary glands].

In this study in 29 patients with Clinical picture of chronic parotitis the comparison was made between the ultrasound and sialographic characteristic. Biopsy of the parotid gland was performed in all patients and chronic disease was patho-histologically verified in all of them. Ultrasound diagnostic method according to our examinations has been shown to be a very reliable in detection of chronic inflammatory processes in the parotid salivary glands.

[Sialography of the normal parotid in relation to neoplasm diagnosis (1)].

We reviewed the normal sialographic image of the parotid gland directed to the sialographic interpretation for the diagnosis of its neoplasms. Through different examples is presented the normal image with accessories lobules and is presented the ductal morphology because these aspects are important signs for the diagnosis of salivary gland neoplasms. Also is stressed the importance of the emptying because is a good indicator for the ubication of the tumor.

[Sialography with digital image processing screens].

We recorded 45 sialograms on digital screens and discuss the use of a digital recording, processing and screening system for the diagnosis of inflammation, tumours and stones of the major salivary glands. Thirty-three investigations of a total of 33 parotid sialograms and 12 submandibular sialograms were analysed. A ductal examination with small volumes of soluble contrast media, permitting painless examination, was possible in all cases due to excellent homogeneous optical density, satisfactory detail and good contrast.

[Comparative study of Uromiron and 38% Lipiodol in sialography].

A comparative study was undertaken to assess the properties of uromiron and lipiodol 38%, which are used as radiopaque materials in sialographic techniques, on 25 young adult outpatients of both sexes that were seen at the Dental School, University of Chile, Santiago. It was found that, although the radiopaque properties of uromiron were less than lipiodol 38%, the can be improved by increasing the amount of material injected into the duct system of the salivary glands. Likewise, uromiron exhibited a proper biological tolerance and a rapid emptying time, therefore the use of uromiron in sialographic techniques seems to be a proper alternative to lipiodol 38%.

[Comparison of computerized tomography and sialography in diagnosis of parotid cysts].

In this study it has been valued the differences between T.C. and "scialography" in the parotid gland cystic lesions. Between 1986 and 1987 we examined 100 patients affected by parotid gland diseases utilizing the two different techniques. In 7 patients we diagnosed cystic lesions of parotid gland. Afterwards we compared the results obtained by T.C. and by scialography.
