[The effect of different topical agents on pseudomonas infection of burn wound].

48 Wistar rats were scalded resulting in 15% TBSA full-thickness burn. Pseudomonas aeruginosa (10(9)/ml was inoculated to the wounds. The rats were divided into 6 groups. 5 different topical agents were separately applied to the wounds constituting 5 groups, and no drug was used in control group. Through observing the appearance of wound, the quantity of bacteria in the subeschar tissue and histo-pathological changes, we confirmed that AgSD-ZnSD-A cream was a satisfactory topical agent.

[Pseudomonas infection associated with whirlpool bath].

After using a whirlpool-spa when the chlorine concentration in the water was very low (0.1 mg/l free chlorine) approximately 20 persons developed a follicular rash. No cases were registered in bathers when the chlorine concentration was acceptable (0.9-1.2 mg/l). The same sero-group and phagetype of Pseudomonas aeruginosa was cultivated from a patient and from the piping system of the spa. The importance of following directions for the installation of whirlpool-spas and regulations for their operation and control is strictly stressed. The National Agency for Environmental Protection is asked to reinforce the existing regulations concerning whirlpool-spas.

Community acquired fulminant Pseudomonas infection of the gastrointestinal tract in previously healthy infants.

Three previously healthy infants presented with diarrhoea and pyrexia and deteriorated rapidly. Two patients had necrotizing bowel disease requiring aggressive surgical intervention. All survived. P. aeruginosa gastrointestinal infection in previously healthy children is an extremely rare condition with a high mortality. Ecthyma gangrenosum was present in over 60% of reported cases although often not recognized initially. A high index of clinical suspicion, including prompt recognition of ecthyma gangrenosum, is mandatory for an early diagnosis of P. aeruginosa gastrointestinal infection. Early diagnosis and treatment may improve the prognosis.

[Specific immunity in patients with severe burns complicated by Pseudomonas infection].

The authors have studied 500 samples of blood serum in 262 patients at the age of from 17 to 70 years with thermal burns of different severity degree, depth of injury and location, which were followed by severe infective processes of pyocyanic etiology, and also in reconvalescents of the burn disease. It was established that despite the high degree of staphylococcal and pyocyanic sensibilization, the specific immune response against the background of infective process developed only in a small number of patients with severe burns.
