An essential prerequisite for integrating disabled persons is their mobility. The special transport approach, both in terms of handling capacity and cost involved, is increasingly turning out to be unable to achieve future-oriented solutions in this context. Disabled people wish to use the transport services available to the general public. They therefore demand public transportation policies to provide for their access to the mainstream system, ideally independent of outside assistance. Deutsche Bundesbahn, the German federal railways, in the field of tension between the need to orient its business policies on economic and financial considerations and disabled persons' demands that vehicles and premises be designed in a barrier-free manner, seeks to achieve solutions that are responsive to users' needs and at the same time economically justifiable. On account of the 19th century infrastructure legacy and a wide range of rolling stock in long- and short-distance rail travel, this can however be realized only step by step. The facilities offered to disabled people so far range from free use of short-distance trains to the accessibility-oriented design of coaches for the Intercity Express, the future of the railways in the European rapid transit network. The various services and facilities provided are hoped to foster disabled persons' decision in favour of the environmentally compatible rail mode of travelling.
The presented findings of research on the sanitary and hygienic status of the BAM-regional cities and towns and assessment of their (and their analogues) developmental perspectives have revealed the interregional difference in climate and nature dictating a differential approach to planning urbanisation of this region's specific areas. Based on the analysis of urban planning and construction and on special observations, measures aimed at environmental protection and population morbidity control have been elaborated and implemented.

Unified encoding questionnaires designed for special purposes were used to study the etiological importance of nutrition factors in the occurrence of peptic ulcer in workers of the locomotive teams at the Alma-Ata railway. The medico-information questionnaire consisted of 296 items. The processing of 898 questionnaires with the use of computer made it possible to discover a number of risk factors of the development of peptic ulcer in the given occupational group. The use of the method of balanced groups (paired copies) enabled one to specify certain factors promoting the occurrence of peptic ulcer in workers of the locomotive teams. The following factors turned out to be statistically significant: irregular meals (less than 3 times a day), living on cold food, the daily use of fried dishes, hurried meals, and hearty supper consisting of three courses. The data obtained may be of importance for the design of the methods preventing the disease under consideration.
Medical examinations were performed on 74 inductive oil wiring workers in contact with synthetic resins. 22 persons from a control group were examined. In the history, frequent complaints about the skin and mucous membranes were obtained, and clinically, moderate skin changes were observed in 9 individuals. These manifestations took the form of erythema and papules, appearing mainly on the uncovered parts of the body during the hot resin's hardening. In some of the workers, positive epicutaneous patch tests with cadmium, cobalt and epidian-3 and -5 were observed. Additional positive reactions were obtained via photo-patch tests with resins and solvents, indicating their photo-allergenic properties in some conditions.

The bacterial contamination of the air was studied in moving rail road trains. The air in front of the trains is poor in microorganisms. The contamination increases to the end of the train which is caused by the dust which is whirled up by the air stream from the rail substructure and the depletions from the toilets. The bacteria which had grown in a culture suspension, appeared in the air around the train when they have been poured to the toilets. The colony count decreases with the distance of the point of contamination. The prevention of contamination is mainly a economical problem but it can be solved in the future.
